The DMV charged my kid a 75 dollar sales tax on a 1 dollar car

So I sold my kid my old beater Chevy Lumina that still runs perfectly fine for 1 dollar. We go to the DMV and the minimum sales tax on the sale of a used car is 75 bucks. I thought that was pretty fucked up.

You are taxed on the value of the car not the sales price. You seem very stupid. You need to see a financial planner who can educate you on gifts to your children so you avoid being over taxed on real items of value.

You are taxed on the value of the car not the sales price. You seem very stupid. You need to see a financial planner who can educate you on gifts to your children so you avoid being over taxed on real items of value.

Property tax is based on the value of the car not sales tax you stupid fucker. 75 dollar minimum.
"Effective July 1, 2016, unless exempted under Va. Code ยง 58.1-2402, Virginia levies a 4.15% Motor Vehicle Sales and Use (SUT) Tax based on the vehicle's gross sales price or $75, whichever is greater. An additional $64 fee applies to electric vehicles, excluding mopeds."
