The 2nd amendment was to prevent tyranny from happening. It needs to be revised. At the time of the Founding of America, each state had their own militia. Many state representatives were concerned that forming a unified country would end up disbanding these state militias for an overall all unified Army, weakening the state's right to self defence in times of emergency. So, the founding fathers put an Amendment saying for the purposes of keeping state militias, and keeping them strong, the government cannot take away guns from these soldiers in these individual state militias. If you are not in a "well regulated" state militia, the amendment does not apply to you.

The founders were clear that the 2nd amendment was an INDIVIDUAL right, not the right of a militia, state or any other grouping of individuals. Doesn't matter if you agree with this fact or not. I'm sure the founding fathers knew the world would change from theirs, one in which the nearest neighbor might have been ten miles away, and bears, indians, etc were very real threats to living.

Which is why the made a vague reference/tie in to militias...enough so that the ownership of guns could be debated in the future, and so their ownership/use could be regulated in accordance with the times.

If they wanted to give a blanket statement, they could have done so, and left the bit about militia out.

But they didn't, as they knew times would change.

Pretty simple.

The Militia Act has been amended several times and is still in effect. Get over it.

Correct, they wrote an example as a qualifier, in two incomplete sentences. If they wanted the right to be clear, they would have written something more concrete, and less muddied.

Militias composed of the whole body of citizens(Madison)were the standing army of its day. When you consider the thousands of gun laws on the books, making the argument that today's lawful gun owners aren't well regulated is a hard one to make.

I think you misunderstood my post - I was commenting on how the 2nd Amendment should be altered. Firearms should be allowed for hunting but we should perfect existing laws that currently ban real 'Assault weapons' to include 'assault-style' weapons and high capacity mags. Lots of combat weapons are banned from being owned. You sound triggered - please allow your loved ones to know of your upset so that protective measures can be taken to keep those around you safe and get you the help you need.

I went out of my way to use 'assault weapon' and 'assault style weapon' - you missed that. anyway just in case I clarified further by saying that any firearm with a mag holding more than 6 cartridges or a shotgun holding more than 6 shotgun shells should be illegal.
