A former top aide to Donald Trump's presidential campaign will plead guilty to fraud-related charges within days and has made it clear to prosecutors that he would testify against Paul Manafort, the lawyer-lobbyist who once managed the campaign.

The change of heart by Trump's former deputy campaign manager, Rick Gates, who had pleaded not guilty after being indicted in October on charges similar to those against Manafort, was described in interviews by people familiar with the case.

"Rick Gates is going to change his plea to guilty," said a person with direct knowledge of the development, adding that the revised plea will be presented in federal court in Washington "within the next few days."

We can be thankful for that and still condemn any illegal activities he may have engaged in outside of the campaign. Personally I never heard of the guy, but appreciate everyone who helped get Trump elected.

Makes you wonder how 2 money launderers ended up as Trump's Campaign Manager and Deputy Campaign Manager. Not just one-off's these guys money laundering and fraud were their stock-in-trade. How is it they came to know and be trusted by Donald Trump?

Manafort and Gates also were accused of trying to hide money kept in foreign bank accounts. Gates controlled as many as 30 bank accounts last year, including several in Cyprus in which he held more than $10 million, according to court documents.

All told, more than $75 million flowed through offshore accounts, the special counsel alleged.

Manafort has just been given new grand jury superceding charges for basically bribing Ukrainian politicians with 2 million euros.

A pardon won't save Manafort. He is guilty of tax evasion in New York and Virginia as well who if they brought charges would not be subject to a presidential pardon.

If by 'liberal' you mean Nationalistic or sovereign I see your point. Manafort is exactly the reason you need to report income - if you are a foreign agent working for a Presidential candidate the US wants to know. Also if you are laundering money in the 10's of millions the US needs to know that too. So no, I dont think tracking criminal activity is particularly 'liberal' but at the moment 'liberal' means anyone that is a threat to Trump. Like lifetime Republican and decorated marine Mueller...
