Why would Honda replace the engine of 10 year old Civic with 151,000 miles??
Posted by: I don’t get it. ()

My father bought a 2007 Honda Civic EX with 161,000 miles. The dealer receipts show that it had a new factory refurbished short block put in by Bill Page Honda under warranty last year when it was 10 years old and had 151,000 miles.

I really can’t think of a single scenario why Honda would do that. No Honda warranty last longer than 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Any ideas??

They're Service Campaigns. Usually the result of a faulty component that has had public backlash and risks their reputation.

Truly impressive of Honda.

Land Rover has been know to walk away defective engines with only 60,000 miles and say F you. Porsche too.

I would call Bill Page and ask them. They will most likely share that information with the current owner.

Honda's aren't very exciting cars but damn are they reliable. Having to replace a Honda engine at 150k is either because of people like Gerry owning it or an engineering flaw. Honda usually does the right thing.

A Land Rover lasted 60,000 miles? Guinness Book of Records entry.

depends - used to be that way before 2000 then came the minivans with defective transmissions that go every 60k. These days its the 2010 - present Pilots that burn a quart of oil every 800 miles. They arent Toyotas that is for sure.

Honda has had some Auto tranny issues in the early 2000s though they would go out at 150k - 250k. No shortage of Odyseys and Pilots for sale with 200k+ on the original trans.

Time will tell how the new turbo cars hold up, probably pretty good knowing Honda.
It's a shame all their cars are so boring.

They are not.

Porsche walked away from the IMS issue grenading engines in their flat-6.
Land Rover walked away from the slipped sleeve in their Disco and Range Rover.
Mini Cooper said F you to a lot of owners with timing chains that imploded and took out the valves.

That Honda would fix a $14,000 original MSRP car with 151,000 miles on it for free tells me they are a great Japanese-American company. Porsche will say F you on a $120,000 car with only 20,000 miles but 10 years old when they grenade. Porsche will just say that will be $24,000 repair please??

Hondas are great cars quality wise. My Daughter bought a used Accord in college and many years later it still runs fine at 345,000 miles and never had any service other than brakes oil and tires. The ride and comfort of every Honda I have driven has been poor though. I prefer the comfort of my 2013 Ford Taurus even though I know it is of lesser quality than Honda I want to be comfortable going down the road. I have the money to keep the Ford on the road so fuck it.

My Ford Excursion diesel crushes Hondas just like how Americans crush libtards.

you authority boot licking dip shit!

they f'ed it up and volunteered to do what they would have been forced to do

i like this one: one mfg put all the radiator fans on a car on backwards - was designed that way by "ENGINEERS". not only that but it fit "one way only" so that it couldn't easily be turned around (or just swap wires? nope won't work)_

you put to much faith in authority, engineers, probably doctors too

"modern medicine" doesn't mean a doctor won't do un-necessarily tonsil replacement, btw. you've been programmed to put full faith in "those above you" but that faith quickly leads to getting screwed over when it is blind faith

Here's what i'm trying to suggest to you: they GOT (in the past) huge paychecks for being major car company engineers. You had to clean toilets to pay for their "awesomeness". But really they are playboys of political people that have no better ability than (you) do. The fact is: they have the money, you have their problem child.

No manufacturer is forced to repair a 10 year old car with 150,000 miles. Honda is awesome!!!

Tell that to Ferrari owners with only 16,000 miles and a broken top-of-the-line Getrag DCT. That’s a $40,000 repair on an essentially new car. Ferrari will say “Fuck You - Pay Me!!” (in Italian).

I bought a used Honda from a Honda dealership and all the drivetrain components are warranted for life. Engine included.

I have a V6 Accord with over 250k miles and it still doesn't require much maintenance. What American automaker can make that claim? None of them.

300k miles is easily achievable by most cars these days if they are maintained regularly. I was in a cab a couple weeks ago that was a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis with 720k on the odometer. I asked the driver if it was the original engine and transmission and he said he thought so. Everyone who is not a moron knows that Jap cars are superior to American cars overall but there are some good American cars out there.
