The Stargate franchise had too many series. I didn't think it was that popular to justify that many television shows.

SyFy is part of the NBC/Universal franchise. Evidently they manage to make money - and the SG shows are one of their bigger draws. Maybe they don't have mass market appeal, but for folks who like SyFy, they are a breath of fresh air from shows about "McDreamy" doctors, and the real world of the rich and famous (and the folks that spend way too much time on MTV).

Then later, they killed him off by dropping a different helicopter on top of him. That actually made me laugh my ass off it was so funny. He goes "Oh Shit!" and then wham. I couldn't believe they did that - and it was just funny as hell.

I remember the next episode they were still trying to recover from having this helicopter crash in their drop off area in front of the ER - and they are like "Where is doctor Romano? It is so unlike him to be late..." And a bit later when they are finally working to remove the wreckage they find his body. I was still laughing in that episode - he had such a prick of a character.
