Before we discuss, please let us know - what is it before you get caught?

If you're referencing adultery (Tiger Woods) - you're playing with fire and the risk grows exponentially the more women on the side you have. Any one of those mistresses can blackmail you at ANY time. Cutting a slice of strange isn't worth it.

That is the discussion. Not just cheating in relationships, but cheating in general. If someone is super successful by cheating and they never get caught, are they still cheaters?

The only thing that makes a cheater a cheater is being caught in the act or otherwise proven to be one. Sort of like Schrodinger's cat.

But if they don't know they're the piece of strange and think they're the only girl you're with, you're still not a cheater until someone identifies you as one.

In Tiger's case, he definitely should have known better if that's what he was doing.

I dont think cheating has to be a bad thing. If one partner needs a little on the side in order to keep his or her family together, so be it. Someone can be in love with their husband/wife, but not be sexually active with them (for whatever reasons). And if fucking a 20 year old on the side can keep that marriage together, whats wrong with that. As a society we have a sense of "normal" that just isnt realistic, and isnt right for everyone. Maybe you want to marry a man, maybe 2 women, maybe a duck. What the fuck should we care, whats right for you may not be right for me. It all comes back around to people wanting to force their own sense of right on others. Thats not to say i could or would cheat on a girl if i was in love (that's gay), but if you can handle it, more power to ya.

That doesn't really seem fair for the duck.

Back in high school when I had to cheat to pass geometry, I didn't call my "cheat sheets", cheat sheets. I called them "self help sheets".

Cheating, whether you're caught or not is still cheating. If you never get caught, that just means you're smarter than the average cheater.

You're still a murderer if you kill somebody and don't get caught - you just haven't been labeled as such by society yet.

Its Cheating, YOU know that you are cheating even if nobody else does. You are committing the act of cheating. Its like if a tree falls in the woods argument. The action of the tree falling in the woods does not have to be validated by someone witnessing the action. That gives too much weight and importance to the person's ego who sees the tree falling. If my trip and my dick lands in some strange girls ass and my girlfriend doesnt see it then its still cheating. Just because she didnt see my hard on plow fresh ground and I didnt make a baby go waaaaaaah cuz its in some strange ass.

So is it the act or society's labels that make a person a cheater or a murderer?

Well, there is a good reason that I could only pull only C's in college philosophy, but I'll give it my best shot:

In our society if you kill someone in cold blood, you've met our society's definition of a murderer although nobody may know you're a murderer. Thusly you have not be labeled as such. But you KNOW you just committed murder.

If you were raised in America's culture - you know what our definition - actual or implied - of cheating is and you know yourself when you're acting in a way that meets that definition. So, you're a cheater.

Fuck this...can we post about something more relevant, like hot girls on toilets?

You have to live with yourself - that's all it comes down to. Some people have no moral compass anyway, so they don't understand what cheating is - to them it is normal.

I'm confused by your questions, Mephisto...

You want to know if cheating makes you a cheater? ...If murdering makes you a murderer?

Are you challenging the definitions of these things? Like the difference between killing a kitty because it's "suffering" and stomping on its head because you're the star of a racy photo shoot?

Are you a murderer if the person is begging for you to kill them because of the amount of pain they are in?

Does it make a difference if the pain is mental/emotional rather than physical?

Will I ever grow a pubic hair?

No - the question would be "Are you a murderer if no one ever knew you killed someone"?

You mean no one, other than yourself? ...Or no one, including yourself?
If it's the former, I'd say the answer is a clear, emphatic "YES!"

But why ask such an easy question? What's he getting at? I think he's got something up his sleeve...

And what's up with this question?

Let's say you plan a murder and a series of circumstances prevents you from going through with it. Are you still a murderer?

What about war? If a soldier kills an enemy, is he a murderer?

If someone makes millions by cheating and never gets caught, is he a cheater or a successful business man?

Per Jesus, yes; or more precisely, you would be culpable of murder.

Per the law, maybe - if you commit an overt act in furtherance of your plan, you may be guilty of attempted murder; but there is no legal culpability if it merely remains a thought in your head.

No, if he is obeying the laws of law. He's a killer, but not a murderer (i.e., someone who committed an unlawful killing).

False dichotomy. He is both.

They couldn't convict you of murder if the person was still alive...

I agree on this one, it wouldn't be "unlawful". But I don't think Jesus would think too highly of it.

He wouldn't. As noted in the text following the semicolon, you would be culpable of murder, but not a murderer, strictly speaking.

That's true.

But you can spend a long time in prison if you're convicted of attempted murder.

You could be right. The subject is one of some controversy - total pacifists like some Quakers vs. just-war types. The excellent movie Sergeant York shows the conflict in dramatic form (it's based of course upon a true story http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergeant_York).

So why wouldn't you just say "Per Jesus, no"? Are you trying to confuse me?

No, I'm not trying to confuse you. I'm drawing a distinction between being a murderer, as such, and being culpable of murder. The latter category, in the sense I'm discussing it, is a metaphysical or spiritual one.

The law, being incapable of discerning metaphysical or spiritual matters, properly demurs from addressing such things as the moral guilt which may arise from "thought crimes," or sins, of the kind described in Matthew 5:27-28.

under the law you can still be prosecuted as a murdering. Its called Conspiracy to murder or something so yes. The penalty might be less than if you committed the crime, but planning the crime is still a crime.
