Ever wonder why college is so expensive?

And this is just for fiscal year 14-15. Many of these professors at the University of Virginia, a public school as an example make north of 500K per annum. And then they pass the bill down to students. Robbing Peter to Pay Paul.

It's expensive for whites and Asians, as they are forced to cover for the free ride given to all blacks.

Trade school is a good option. My son has wanted to go to Germany to University since 5th grade to avoid debt. German schools are free to anyone if you are accepted. You dont even need to speak German. My son will have 4 years of German under his belt. We will miss him but will use tuition money saved to for frequent air travel. Gonna be fun.

The more accurate scenario is the "Megans" of the world eventually make upwards of mid 6 figures, while the "Marks", who might have indeed got a faster "start" cap out pretty quickly, while still doing labor, and working insane hours.

Megan tries to schedule Marks work while she is out at her beach house.

If Marks goal was to stay ahead of Megan, Mark becomes angry and bitter, because that is not possible with his educational credentials.

Sure, there are Megans that don't do well, and there are even a few Marks that end up owning their own contracting company and do better than Megans.

But for the most part, statistically speaking, there are many, many more "Megans" that do better, financially, than "Marks" over a longer period of time.

Now, here come the arguments about money not equaling success, or money doesn't equal happiness, or "since I know this ONE GUY who didn't have a degree but made a ton of money, any statement that deals with a larger population is wrong"... but as it relates to the idea this poster was trying to convey that Mark's do better than Megan's FINANCIALLY...nope.

The numbers and reality just don't support that.

I thought about doing this myself for grad school. The universities in Berlin are especially good. The only problem with degrees from Germany, or anywhere in Europe for that matter is that you are sort of painted into a corner upon completion. Coming back to the states to find a job could prove to be a task. Would employers in the States recognize the degree? Not enough Americans have tried as of yet. Still an amazing opportunity to live and study in another part of the world for 2 years. The technical schools in Germany are very good as well. maybe better than the states.

Yes these are world recognized institutions of higher learning - some of them very good; US companies will recognize any degree from a top University in the world. Recall, in Europe not anyone can go to University - you have to be smart. Its not like here where we let anyone in.

Munich is the best and is akin to Boston University. America still has the lock on the worlds best higher education but what good is it if you go into lifetime debt to get it?

Success in college requires only the ability to retain what you have been told by someone else who may be full of shit. This comes at great cost in both time and money as it will take a decade or more before your education(indoctrination?) catches up to how the world really works.

A third of billionaires are college dropouts. So a degree is a help but not a necessity.

These days I'd look at a recent college degree job candidate as a liability due to entitlement and brainwashing. Likely to create problems and sue you.

It’s expensive, but being a dumbass for the rest of your life is even more expensive. Just look at the people from your high school who didn’t go to college. I can’t think of one who is as well off or in a better situation as me. In fact most are pretty pathetic.

I have a friend who didn't think he was cut out for college. He went to to a trade school, got an HVAC cert. and a cert. in construction engineering. Did all of this in two years for about 15,000. He got a job paying him over 50K before he even finished the program. Although he's made a good honest living, he hasn't gotten any type of raise or promotion in the ten years since he got those certificates as all of the people at the top of his company have degrees.

He's decided to go back to school to get an engineering degree, and has gotten his past employer to pay for his Associates, and his current employer is footing the bill for his bachelors in civil engineering. Trade school will get the ball rolling, but you'll need a degree if you want social mobility. Getting an employer to pay for your education is ideal, and I believe good companies invest that sort of time and money in employees.

Yeah, and probably half or more of billionaires are second generation wealth, or are otherwise family wealth...so they would probably be billionaires even if they couldn't read, write or speak.

And then, how many self made billionaires are "drop outs"?

And then, how many of those are not your "flunky" type drop outs, but, like Bill Gates, are more "opportunistic" drop outs, dropping out of places like Harvard, etc?

Life is all about chances and opportunities...if you want to increase those for yourself, best to get a college degree.

Doesn't mean you can't have limited success, wild success, or all types of success in between, without a degree, you just increase your chance of doing so with a degree.

Going back to that statement--"a third of all billionaires are dropouts" OK, even if most of those weren't "family rich", it does show the chances of being a billionaire are greater-2/3 to 1/3, if you have a degree...

So there...get a degree if you want better chances of being a billionaire.

Can we all get a settlement for his fraud Presidency? Maybe impeachment and he has to move to Russia with his whole family.

neither of those situational depictions are likely:

* women with degrees easily fuck their way into a government job or hospital job or into a 501c gov grant "free company"

* even Devry doesn't offer 1yr degrees: Devry is infamous for lying about saleability of their "degreee" / certs - and were sued and lost the suit for doing so in the past. presently they are back to doing the same things - they must have found a microsoft style judge.

* all trades are controlled by government now since Bill Clinton banned trades people from training each other and offering free schools for those already hired

your a fucking troll teacher union mobster trying to push lies on the public

I read this article and teacher pay rate is was more important than any of the reading assignments in college.

note: fairfax county government tells it's citizens there is no work in the county (despite continually hiring more illegals) and that $10/hr should be one's "life expectation"

OH FUCKING REALLY?

you have to understand some "teachers" are important phd that attract government grant money and sales of technology to major companies (actaully - all of that is a scam to get the taxpayer to pay for corporate product improvement)

HOWEVER - UVA is not "VA TECH", UVA is not high in chemistry engineering or anything (that should be) on the cutting edge of Grant funding (which as i already said is mostly corrupt)

i don't have to look before knowing if i look into the achivements of the people listed above i will NOT find important sales that are much higher than their pay

your all's assumption that there is no reason for the high pay is %99.5 sure to be correct

College is not expensive at all. Not going to college is expensive as hell. 4 years at a Virginia college cost my Mom and Dad just $86,000. Just over 20k a year and my very first job started me off at $88,000 a year. College is a bargain!

Well, if your parents pay for it I guess it's not expensive for you. Some of us have to work our way through college starting with community college in order to keep the cost down. I guess a spoiled rotton little snowflake like yourself does not have to worry about anything other than studying.
You should try washing pots and pans in the dining hall 30 hours a week and taking a full schedule like I do.

Need to differentiate here - top dude is head of surgery, dept chairman, works to get grants (and does) etc. He is smart, dexterous, works his ass off, and if he makes a mistake, people die. If anyone deserves that coin, it's him. Others are law school profs - guess you have to pay the good ones to teach instead of work.

I have a degree and all it does is get your foot in the door. The problem is most companies require them nowdays almost like a high school diploma used to be. It sucks but it's true and it all depends what you want to do in life.
