The chances are real good that foul play is involved, but the series of events doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

She's at a Metallica concert over 100 miles from home or VT. Goes to the bathroom and somehow gets outside the building and CAN'T get back in. Calls friends and says she's trying to get in and will be back, but never returns. Then, possibly she starts hitchhiking??? Maybe she was high or drunk, but even at my worst I had enough awareness to think - I just gotta get from the bathroom to arena. I never ended up outside the building, much less decide to hitchhike.

Investigators in Va. slayings looking for minivan
November 17, 2009 - 5:22pm

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Investigators are looking for a silver or gray minivan that was spotted at a campground the night two Virginia Tech students were slain there in August.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday they have information that the minivan was seen on Craig Creek Road at Caldwell Fields in the Jefferson National Forest on Aug. 26.

Authorities had asked to speak to everyone who traveled the road the night 19-year-old David Lee Metzler and 18-year-old Heidi Lynn Childs were killed.

The sheriff's office says no one driving such a vehicle has come forward.

The area is about 15 miles from the Blacksburg campus.

A reward of more than $60,000 is being offered for information leading to a conviction in the case.
