(There were a lot more traditional conservatives then, so there was a lot of that fucked up hillbilly shit.)

OTOH, less muslims.

Back in the '70s:
-Hard to Get anything on Sundays.
-Conservative. D.C. could have been 1,000 miles away
-Alexandria was mostly Negro.
-Lots of Mom and Pop restaurants. Comfort food
-Lower Taxes
-People didn't ask you what you did for a living all the time

I thought schools were still segregated until 1972. Also the proper term is Oriental.

I believe Fairfax County started desegregation in the early 60s.

I walked a mile to school two hours early every morning to play Monken-Eye.

If you stepped out of line at school you got paddled and it hurt.

Getting in a fist fight was just the way things got settled.

We sexted with girls using hand written notes.

School pizza, spaghetti, and soy cheeseburgers tasted great.

In the summer, Mom would kick me out of the house at 8:00AM in the morning and tell me not to come home until dark.

You could have sex with a girl and not worry about getting AIDS.

Jerking off to your Farah Fawcett poster was acceptable.

Getting a DWI wasn't a death sentence and sometimes the cops would make you park your car and drive you home.

If the Cops busted you smoking pot or drinking beer they made you pour out your weed or beer, break your bong on the curb, and sent you home in tears.

Hairy pussy was awesome.

Everyone with a brain knew Disco sucked.

Freebird and Stairway to Heaven played at every dance.

No automobiles, people rode on horses or a modern contraption called the "bike". Lot of dirt roads and mud, horse poop on roads. People were usually in bed by 8pm in winter and 9pm in summer. Saturdays were days for hootenannies and barn dances, folks would be sipping Moxie or Sasparilla sodie pops, kids would be munching on penny candy, Cracker Jack, and goober peas. Older folks would be reading "Grit" and laughing at Little Orphan Annie and the Katzejammer Kids. Popular TV shows,( TV viewing was in the Grange building) were "Life of Riley", "Highway Patrol", December Bride and "The Real McCoys". A true metropolitan city.

Monken-Eye...great frickin game.

Forget the rules or how it was played, but I seem to remember it being on a basketball court, and the players who got "out" would go to the back court area, so basically you would throw from both sides.

Also remember if you caught a ball, you could get back in? Something like that.

Super cool, the only dark cloud was the famous Pat Boone/acne statin scandal, the first real time the FDA got tough with phony medications, Pat was forced to pay back many purchasers of that product. That affair put Fairfax in a funk for a long, long time, Pat was very dear to citizens of Fairfax, much like Meade is today. On the lighter side, most High School kids kept a "Mr Microphone" in their car, that helped ease/break the ice with the meeting of girls. A popular come on at the time was: "Hey Good looking, be back to pick you up later". If the guy was lucky the girl (or guy) would wait for the Romeos return.

west and south/southwest fairfax was mostly trees, then more trees.

Herdon was a hidden hispanic outcrop of hispanics here before columbus. Reston all trees not including some renegade federal workers settling near the new airport.

DC implants and hispanics: very very few just a handful

there was no BURKE community - that was all trees

Springfield was a small town with 1 or 2 highschools yet many small businesses - it wasn't yet connected to 95 i think or just getting to be so. maybe take telegraph road. still mostly of trees.

it wasn't until you hit 7-corners until "you were in big town", you might say

mclean all trees until you got to falls church - Tyson's was a super project that changed that the next 30 years until metro became a nog hauler. now it's a "democrat sleeze zone" with rich gov workers and sleezy businesses.

made in china - only for silly small disposable items in the 1980's. made in taiwan - perhaps. made in germany, england, france, sweden spain - rare but possible (today - absolutely impossible). except VW parts - germany popular there - overpriced people used mostly compatible usa parts or used parts when they could.

rt. 50 had allot of small homes - they were there since vietnam or end of WWII: they are now all occupied by hispanics asians blacks. asians in annadale ... an in-ordinate number of them are in the FEDERAL ACCOUNTING business and "insurance industry". keep an eye on your accounts they can disappear end up somewhere else.

FAIRFAX WAS DESTROYED BY DC AND MARYLAND - who send maryland DC and new jersey staffers to make it hugely in debt and a sprawling zone for communists attempting to do treason - who wanted to be, WELL SURROUND, the Capitol of the Unites States of America

Fairfax had some factories even A LEADER IN THE TECH INDUSTRY (Digital Equipment Corporation HQ and assy rooms)

democrats attacked and shut down all of them - they can be traced to the closure of each and every closure i fathom

matress stores, services for government (towing, metro building), tile stores, nail salons. all self serving no factories. tons of importing. reliance on government for incomes.

Maybe DEC had a sales field office here, I don't know. But DEC was a Massachusetts company, headquartered in an old mill complex in Maynard, MA. That's where most (or all?) the computers were built.

Maybe you're mixing up DEC with some other computer company. No idea since I don't think there were ever any computer factories or anything like that in Northern Virginia.

But if there were, it would be fascinating to hear about it.

No TJ or GT. Just carefree living.
Gas was 32¢ a gallon.
Cigs were 22¢ a pack.

The west end of Henrico by Richmond. Far less people more laid back the common major roads like Rt 50 Lee Highway Rt 1 RT 7 Columbia Pike were crowded at rush hour which was not as long

People were laid back , there were not as many liberal political haters and every one saw leftists as communists

The area was built up in Arlington Alexandria city Falls Church the city of Fairfax but elsewhere there was still open areas and places to party like in Clifton off the railroad tracks with long haired weed soaked youth like Bunnyman raising a bit of weird hell

In McLean In Pimmit Hills RT 50 Falls Church Burgendy Village Fairfax City off 236 and Lorton Herndon and even Clifton long haired older youth were settling down in still available 3 br small Cape Cods and single story bungalows festooned with a peace sign with a wife and soon a long haired baby with thir weed stashes grow lights plants black lights incense and posters of communists with musical noise, Posters on the walls like the Beetles and The "Boss" we're seen with blackout curtains so bypasses could not detect weed haze inside

There were many better places to eat , Uncle Toms BBQ drew blacks redneck Dixie Pig drew whites Tom Sarris New Orleans house Tom Westons in Annandale 3 Pigs in McLean Three Chefs and Jack in the Box drew others and Arthur Treachers crisp fried fish hot chips and Ice cold Fanta could be depended on by weed soaks to cool their bongs

They had corner pharmacies that served Fountain Drinks. LUM's cooked hotdogs in beer. Soccer was becoming big. Had cigarette vending machines. Pack of Lucky Strike was about 75 cents. Disposable pens and cigarette lighters was the start of "disposable consumer good", Beginning of the end you could say.

1. Before I-66 opened inside the Beltway there were large areas in north western Fairfax County that were still rural.
2. Most male homeowners in Fairfax County worked for the Federal government. Many of those people were working blue collar Federal jobs.
3. The hot girl from your high school class probably had a job at McDonalds or at the area retail stores.
4. Most of the guys in high school who had their own cars also did their own auto maintenance.
5. Social standing in high school for guys depended on what high school sports you played. For girls making the cheerleader squad pushed you to the top of the social pyramid.
6. Schools posted honor rolls and class rankings.
7. If you were a teen with a drivers license in 1973, one of your jobs was to wait in line at the gas station to fill up the family car.
8. Four wheel drive vehicles were very rare. When it snowed there were announcements on the radio asking for volunteers to transport people to hospitals. Fairfax Hospital treated its volunteers like shit.
9. Most guys in high school lied about how much sex they were getting and very few high school girls would engage in casual sex. Some things don't change.

VERY UNTRUE. many were alcoholics and 1/10 were NOT fully literate.

in the ?mid 1980's it was released that "anything that tastes good is definitely linked with disease and early death, including cigarettes, AND any consumer product containing 'a chemical concoction'"

my generation became called "CHEMICAL BABIES" since nasty chemical products were used "for everything" and we were exposed, often poisoned as children, due to the general "un-awareness they weren't really safe"

RED #5 food color became banned (after i ate pounds of it!!!!!), to put it into perspecitve

in the very early 80's "food preservatives" got in EVERYTHING, "a revolution that would save humanity". just 5 yrs later people were diseased or dying - these people weren't eating farm fresh food they were surving on canned foods - which contained allot of the "new preservatives".

in the 70's early 80's they'd sell a NASTY chemical to "increase the shine on your carpet". their was a chemical for everything was the plan - didn't matter what was in it. (but the carpet dye back then actually worked - unlike today's - due to regulations? well since internet you can likely find the stuff that works.)

In the 70s the only blacks in the county were the custodians that worked at the schools. They commuted from DC and Maryland and went back every night. It was safe to walk the streets at night and white people minded there own business. Except when there was a KKK rally at the court house.

Oh and the women still had hair on their cooters.

This isn't correct. There were a number of 7-11s in Fairfax City/County in the 1970s. After finishing little league practice we would ride our bikes over to the nearby 7-11 and buy cokes or the occasional Slurpee.

There was a 7-11 at the origin of Gallows Road (Columbia Pike) in Annandale from the early 1960s (at least) until just a few years ago (when the veterinary hospital next door took over the lot).

There was a Highs in the main Annandale shopping strip directly across the street.

There was also a 7-11 about 1/4 mile away on Annandale Road near the bowling alley. Don't know how old that one is, but it was definitely there in the 70s. It's still there.

In the 70s there was a Highs in Culmore. It closed quite a few decades ago when Highs left Northern Virginia. There was then, and still is, a 7-11 immediately next door. We liked that Highs better than 7-11 because it had some kind of ice cream (snow cones?) we loved. (But we preferred 7-11 everywhere else, because: Slurpees!

7-11 is the first store that my parents took me to where I could spend my own money. I remember learning to count coins there, and suddenly realizing that this was the same thing as the arithmetic I was learning in school. My favorite thing was a Coke Slurpee. It was 15 or 20 cents. That was around 1965.

Fun trivia: The location of my neighborhood 7-11, is by the Methodist Church at the origin of Gallows Road. Every road in Virginia is a "highway" and every road has a number. Guess what the number is (was?) for Gallows Road, exactly where the 7-11 is? Yup, 711.

That's how I know that none of this is real, and I have always been living in a simulation.

That's true. There were 7-11 in springfield too. East fairfax. But maryland had High's east and west fairfax.

For a while they did negative advertising that High's was a local business - that 7-11 was not good for the area. It didn't work. 7-11 had location, location, more locations. Source of funds: unknown.

However, they were an out of state company and High's Maryland did their best not to let them grow. It's really a shame 7-11 took over and shut down all High's.

I went to a Highs recently out by Fort Meade, and it was great! Super clean and nice and good selection.

People thought he was a wimp because a handful of people halfway around the world were taken hostage. We thought we had it tough.

Two decades later, the same people were flying planes into our buildings over here.

Despite what Democrat bullshitters say about Nixon not many cared . Today Democrats still put on an act like everyone was into their shitty politics that's a big lie

Its true No one really gave a shit about Watergate, other then some screwed up doped communists of any age and smug ass liberals as some older real Americans fought back against their bullshit

Back then the only thing that really counted to young people was that Richard Nixon had really turned down the Vietnam war death count by 1972 and in 72 the draft was dead it was ended . The POWs started coming home and by 75 it was all over. People were happy partying going to school Jesus freaks were starting with Moonies but everyone got along we were all still Americans back then doing our thing and having fun looking toward the future

Today the future of the USA is a black screen, that's what Democrats have done to this country's spirit with all the fake overblown issues they come up with to divide us to gain total power which no political party should ever have in a free nation. Its a matter of a national balance of power which the USA has always thrived upon , not having major one way issues shoved down our throats by Democrats with a scant majority

Its no wonder sick depraved people have been shooting up people and schools Democrats brought it here they own it with their sensational media as they are so negative and need control over your life. No one ever did that or even thought of doing that in the 70s, we were free and happy as we all should be. People with guns went target shooting or hunting and no one but Democrat party types cared and bitched about it as control freaks . Things were so much cooler back then

First, they tirelessly lambasted Clinton the whole time he was in office. During the Reagan years they came to believe that the GOP would be in the White House forever, and have never really accepted that this is not the case.

Then when Bush got in, he got us into a horrible and totally unnecessary war, which permanently divided this country. Funny thing is, every person who is now a trumptard was at the time a huge fan of the war, although the little weasels ALL deny it now. But every trumptard is a former Bushtard. Every single one.

The generation born in the early 60s (so high-school in the mid-late 70s) in Northern Virginia definitely DID NOT know or care about politics.

That entire time, I did not know if my parents were Republicans or Democrats. I knew the Vietnam war was bad and that some of the older parents lost children (who were practically grownups to me) in the war. I didn't know anything else about the war. One day I stopped hearing anything about the war because it was over. I heard that some of the hippy rock songs might have been about the war.

I could tell you the name of the President, but not his party.

I remember Nixon's resignation very well, and sort of understood that someone had tried spying on someone with a break-in at the Watergate hotel. And that there were tapes with missing minutes. Which ones were the Democats and which ones were the Republicans again?

I knew that Russia and China were evil commies out to get us. China (Nixon) was a big deal when I was in high school.

We all had parents or grandparents (in their 40s) who had been in WWII. We lived in the Cold War. We had weekly air-raid sirens. We grew up thinking there was a 60% chance we would all be nuked when Russia decided to take out the Pentagon.

National politics were entirely unknown to us. All we thought about internationally, really, was that we were probably going to die before age 30 when D.C. would be nuked.

Never thought about state politics at all. Did hear of Fairfax politics a little, due to bits by Murphy In The Morning on WEEL radio.

Kids of the previous generation (born in the mid-late 50s) were political. Like flower children.

We knew that D.C., a place where you must never go (more or less), was run by corrupt niggers.

Politics: irrelevant, boring, not interested. Don't know and don't want t know. Simply not part of our lives.

I didn't even vote until I was 25 years old. And I was living in a different part of the country by then.

Don't ask me who or what political party he was in, he had planes pulling banners in the early 70's with "Parris in the Fall For Delegate" on them , so I voted for him . I did vote for Nixon in 72 and later other then president I actually would play enie meanie miney moe and pick some on because there name sounded better

Stan Parris https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/former-6-term-congressman-stan-parris-dies/1886054/ The first I ever really knew about Stan Parris just now ! Turns out he was a Republican and a real American a war hero so my pick was good !

Thats because we did not give a rats about politics that much because the long Vietnam war was ending Nixon was getting that done and I knew LBJ the Democrat started it and made it bad , and Nixon opened the door to communist China which was seen as a good thing to cool US/Commie relations that had been heated

When Watergate started, I saw Democrats as the biggest liars whiners and hypocrites on the planet but still I concentrated on what everyone did women and good times not dismal Democrats in politics and we did not bother to ask who any people was voting for , we just had our views of the national party In 1976 I was sucked into voting for Jimmy Carter to "heal the country" and change

Thats the one and only time I fell for that old tired Democrat song after Jimmy no more Democrats for me ever ! I learned the hard way like so many others of their weasel ways

The change we got were long gas lines BS about no more oil and no Christmas lights up , a dark dreary time of year that people took to drinking and getting high to get thru teetotaler Jimmy's faking being cold in his sweater in the White House as he actually created more drunks and dopers then he stopped .Lucky for me I just kept keeping on working and being happy as hell going out with women , having fun in so many ways like to Clark Bros to shoot , partying ,traveling and checking out places like Vienna Inn and more and never thought of individual people as political parties. I only thought of some people as Vienna Types as Vienna was a strange kind of weird place and still is

They felt vindicated when Reagan was elected in 1980. Then in '92 Clinton was elected, and they kind of went batshit crazy after that.

The Reagan administration was to a large degree responsible for the rot setting in. Government outsourcing, locality pay, the creation of SES, entities and positions exempted from the civil service pay scale, alteration of the civilian retirement system, all done under Reagan, helped turn Fairfax from what it was in the 1970s into what it has become today.

Muscle cars in the school parking lots.

Almost no minorities.
No one standing at intersections begging for money.
Manassas was considered the far-out country. Heck, even Herndon was considered the sticks.
Rt 28 and Rt 50 intersection had stop signs and after you went past 28, there was absolutely nothing for miles and miles.
Life was slower, just like Fairfax.

I didn't vote for Trump. I feel he was arguably among our three worst presidents along with Harding and Buchanan. I agree that Bush was a disaster. The U.S. in 2000 had the opportunity, unique since WW2. That opportunity was pissed away, first by Bush's need to cut taxes in 2001 and then by the neocons' need to convert a relatively manageable response to 911 into a series of conflicts to reshape the world.

His economy was great his SCOTUS picks were upholders of the constitution, he stay out of that Syrian event the Democrats news media whined to get us involved in , he was winding down the Afghan war and we would have been smoothly out without the e loss of 800 billion in US weapons that will return to kill our young patriots some day .Trump got three vaxes out in record time , he would have never divided the people with forced vax or loss of your job and our borders would have been secured almost 2 million more illegals would have been detered from trying to enter the US illegally

JOE BIDEN is the worst US president of all time, only the far left extremes can not see that he was elected only by hate of president Trump and his supporters that the leftist Democrat supporting media was able to harness and change just enough minds to give JOE the win
