Yeah. That skit is about as unfunny as this one...

I think sometimes Lorne Michaels makes the decision that if a skit doesn't result in boos and chairs flying, it's good.

SNL has a rehearsal Thursday late afternoon/evening (that is where they shoot the promos for Thursday night "Hi I am So and so and I will be hosting SNL with musical guest what's his name" then insert silly joke). A rehearsal the same time Friday and a dress rehearsal saturday at 8:00 pm with a studio audience.

A few more skits are rehearsed than actual time for the live show permits. The decision on witch skits to run is posted by Lorne Michaels on a white board sometimes minutes before air time. Audience reaction during the dress rehearsal, time etc is what his decision is based upon. Changes during the show also happen.

If time is running short or long, Weekend Update is usually the one to stretch time or sped up to get back on schedule.

A couple times a SNL cast member did not get the word and showed up on stage for a skit when a different skit was running.

SNL rehearsals! Back in the late 70's Lorne Michaels called an extra rehearsal for Saturday at noon. Bob Newhart was hosting that week. Bob and Jane Curtain were the only talent that showed up at noon. As I recall, Danny Aykroyd's excuse for not showing up was that he was too busy racing his antique Indian, (or was it his Harley), up and down Sixth and Seventh Avenues, Doing his best to, in his words, ”scare the tourists."

Lorne learned a valuable lesson; if you are keeping the cast up until after 1:00 AM that night, don't call a rehearsal "early" in the day. They need their life.

The best skit ever is the Debbie Downer bit when Lindsay Lohan was hosting about 4-5 years ago.

No one could keep it together. It look liked Lohan and Fallon had pissed themselves halfway through it.
