A FISA warrant details the exact reasons for the wiretap, and its retarded to think that a court would approve one if its purpose was gathering political intel. And if Trump or Manafort's numerous lawyers suspected that, they could challenge that warrant on those grounds right now in court.

Correct. The issuance of a FISA warrant by a court requires evidence of a probable crime - they dont hand these out like IRS audits. The subsequent search warrant would also require investigators make a compelling case for probably criminal activity and the likelyhood of destruction of evidence. This isnt like appointing a Grand Jury - you have to present the court with specific evidence of potential criminal activity.

None of this is a verdict however. No one has been charged as of yet. As to the OP's speculation without any source, who knows what he is talking about - not me.

Nope Fisa warrants are very easy to get and to wiretap a opposition campaign manager is criminal activity. If it's not then you can expect Trump to dig into future opponents minuscule finances to wiretap campaigns against him .

The Washington DC.-based Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court received 1,457 requests from the National Security Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to intercept phone calls and emails.

In long-standing fashion, the court did not reject a single warrant, entirely or in part.
