The "analysts" blame the hurricane coverage for the weak, tanking ratings from week 1, down 17% from last year's week 1 numbers.
Poll after poll tell them it's the Kaepernick/BLM shit and still the try and tell us it's everything but. I didn't watch last Sunday. Won't watch this Sunday either.
It's not just the TV ratings that are tanking. It's also NFL merchandise sales, gate receipts and subscribers to NFL products. TheNFLNetwork viewership is down almost 20% from two years ago. Can't blame the election or hurricanes for that.

I was a diehard fan my whole life but over the past few years i haven't really followed the NFL, and not because of the Kapernick thing either, which i don't have a problem with and see more as just rightwing butthurt. I just think its ridiculous that i can't just order a game i want to watch without signing a contract with Direct TV. Fuck those exclusive deals, stream all the games over the internet. I'd gladly pay 15-20 bucks to watch the Broncos when they're not broadcast here in this market. And sometimes they put games exclusively on the NFL network, a premium channel i'd have to add to my cable service. Fuck that. It's just a stupid broadcast model in the age where anything can be made available online. And get rid of those Thursday night games. Pro football is for Sundays and Mondays. I shouldn't need to glue myself to the tv on a work night to see a game unless it's a Monday. And screw the late games here on the east coast. They should start at 6 or 7, not after 8 o clock. One thing i miss from living in CA is that games were on early.
Instead everything's just piece-mealed, not readily available over the internet, on at inconvenient times, and just a hassle to keep up with.

I stopped actually watching the game years ago, long before the first player took a knee during the National Anthem. Why spend three hours watching less than 30 minutes of activity. More recently I started streaming other shows for background noise when I was doing things around the house, for pretty much the same reason. Get the game under 2 1/2 hours and let the defenders hit people and viewers will return.

I stopped watching quite some time ago, after the salary cap stuff started. I don't mind them making money, but when the team can't (or won't) spend the money to keep the players I've grown accustomed to following, it just doesn't work for me anymore. I'm not saying the players don't deserve the money, but the business model just doesn't work for me.
I watch NCAA football when I can, even though I know the players will only be there for a few years (if that). It's more of a whole team effort there, but the situation may get to be just like the NFL, if they start paying the players and allowing them to transfer at will. I don't know how that situation will play out.

Now that Trump has really shone the spotlight on all this bullshit, I'm predicting ratings down 20% this weekend. If so, the loses to the networks this weekend alone will be $80 million. Unsustainable. The NFL has been trying to sugar coat this problem for over a year and it's not going away. They can lie to themselves and try and lie to us. But their former fans know better.
It's like stories about why Hillary lost the election (Russia, bad strategy, failure to turn out black vote). All the comments tell them it's the fact that Hillary was just a completely unlikable person who isn't trusted or respected. Same with the NFL's tanking ratings. It's the protests. Read the comments in stories on it. More than half the people who comment blame the protests.
