Study shows a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, and fish lowers the chance of depression. People that eat processed food have a 58% higher chance of suffering from clinical depression.

the real question is: does eating fast food make your more likely to be depressed or does being depressed make you more likely to eat fast food?

I'm sure it might be both, but then again, someone always comes out with a ridiculous study claiming that they "Now Know The Answer" to some issue. I used to eat McD's a lot as a kid, but I was never depressed. I still eat Fast Food maybe twice a week or more at times, sometimes not at all, and I've never really witnessed a difference. I do know that too much of it makes me crave home cooking though, because home cooked food really fills you up and takes away feelings of hunger for a much longer time.

unless you have some facts to back that claim up, it was a rhetorical question.

I don't know if there's really any causal link here, but this theory definitely seems to hold some water in my case. I hate fish, rely on my microwave to prepare meals, and I've been depressed for four years now. I don't know...I think, more likely, if you're the type of person predisposed to depression, then that's how it's gonna be, poor eating habits or not. Then again, I'm sure eating like shit doesn't help any.

I suggest Cymbalta. It gets you out of a deep depression almost instantly.

Blessed are the murderous.

You need to see a psychiatrist, not a general practitioner. You have multiple issues (rapid cycling bipolar, depression, God knows what else). GPs don't know how to handle that. Also, medications used to treat depression can cause depression in bipolar people. BTW, psychiatrists don't engage in talk therapy - they leave that to the psychologists. Psychiatrists now are glorified pill pushers. But you really need to see one and get on the right kind of treatment.

You should be aware that psychiatrists are popular in NOVA (big surprise) and you may have to wait a month or more to get in to see one. If you don't have insurance, you might see if you can get into a clinical trial somewhere.

the current state of neuroscience is hit or miss and for a small percentage it will even make things worse. so, you should switch to a different medication. Cymbalta (Duloxetine) is a SNRI.

there are many variations on the same idea, reuptake inhibiting. they can have drastically different effects and even within each group they can have big differences.

it could be that inhibiting the serotonin, norepinephrine or perhaps just the combination of both is exacerbating your depression.

SSRIs have been around forever, so you may want to try some well known ones like Wellbutrin XL (Bupropion).

i have yet to hear of someone that does not benefit from any of the anti-depressants out there. if at first you dont succeed, try, try again.

and seriously, if you dont see a positive change in a month or so, try a different anti-depressant.

I don't know what to tell you then.....my hand to god's ear, no antidepressant I've ever taken, ever, and I confirmed it with my doctor recently---I have been on virtually every commonly used drug on the market at one time or another; we went through the list...I think there were two, maybe three, that he named that I haven't been on---has ever had a significant effect. I didn't just fall off the depression turnip truck, my friend. And I was wrong about the 'four years' estimate I gave two years ago when this thread first appeared; it really has been virtually life-long....I can't think of a time I haven't been depressed. It's not a condition, it's inborn in me. My hands to god's ears, so help me by-gum.

no, the drugs have never worked. I hate this place, nothing works here, the medications don't work, I've been here for seven years.....

so you can shove all that malarky in your hat, and PRINT IT.

thank you for your interest tho. Can you have Cary un-ban me please? I'd appreciate it. Thans
