Tech Buz: the promise of cloud computing: is it worth the $$, in the Amazon? has it ever been true?

there's the cost of becoming familiar with OS's (and thus several computing languages). (you can avoid some by running binaries, but they will be bins provided by foreign countries with no liability and assured security issues). (setup will be a bitch - making any use of a cloud runtime to inter-operate with your pc will be a bitch).

$13 / hr to run a full install BSD or Linux platform on Amazon Cloud `aws'

(yes there is no multi-user bsd running you can just get a user account on you have to run the whole OS because "colleagate IT" is such a thing of spyware, military money, picked winners, that no OS can be trusted to do perform the basics of user account security)

same price as 6 days of runtime: a new Apple iMac that is way better than remote computing and also has a little cloud functionality built-in for free not requiring any study - it's automatic.

we all want cloud to have huge OSes that have little output running and available for others to see / use remotely.

but has the promise of cloud ever come true ?
