But they are bankrupt and the majority that voted just said they wanted to be a U S state. Why do you want to disenfranchise them?
Facts matter. No more rainbows and unicorns. They voted for assholes in the past, just like we have.

DC was originally conceived and thought of as a location where lawmakers and politicians would travel to a part of the year to assemble. DC was not intended to be a city that had permanent residents with no connection to the Federal government. It was also never intended to have a local government of its own.
It's a Federal district, it is not supposed to have local politics or local institutions.

Puerto Rico has a pension system that is 7 percent funded, their debt is rated by all rating agencies as being junk and unemployment is 12.5 percent. They want statehood to get out of all of these commitments.
