i can go to microcenter and get a pretty capable laptop with windows 10 pre-installed for $200

why would i f'ing pay $200 for an "activation key" (not even coming with boxed memory stick) for a KEY ?

(note: yes if you have bought a laptop for the same price then the key is free - f'ing assholes)

so i want to dual boot to make a single command prompt binary - i should not even need to install windows - but due to "the major powers" i do. 50 GB to do what used to be done in a very few megabytes.

You don't have to install Windows to get dual-boot. There are many options available otherwise which do not require Windows at all. Again, there's that same tax involved.

To begin with, most newer computers capable of running Win 10 won't need it. It will be pulled from the BIOS automatically if it were sold with OEM windows. Alternately, you can install any old prior version of 7 or 8 valid or not and you'll end up with a valid Win 10 upgrade. Last, if all that you wanted to do is "dual-boot" you don't need an activated version anyway. Not even considering that there's no requirement to have Windows just to do dual-boot.

You can however end up with a legit license for free in a variety of ways, including using an UNLICENSED old version of 7 or 8. Which is unnecessary if your computer came with an OEM version and/or a license is stored UEIF. AT least assuming that your brain hasn't been largely eaten by pine weevils as apparently in your case.

the non-microsoft site say you might have to pay

the microsoft page gives all the directions for installing Windows 10 and leads to a "download free" page. none of it saying anything about payment.

the installer says nothing about payment and says product key can be entered later after installation

but the installation mysteriously stops one step after with a message that neither company admits to

when i asked in channels what to do, a mob jumped on my post and tried to convince me the reason it didn't work is because I didn't pay $200

i later see a video (not produced by either party) that says "i works, and if you let ms employees log in remotely to your computer you can get a key free" and the video also suggests the "key" is 1/2 price of the key price i was shown

thing is: neither company owns up to the it not working and if you ask in a forum what to do, you are jumped on by a mob insisting your stupid for not having already payed

Again, understanding that you're off your meds...

First, there is no need to do anything at all with Microsoft simply to do dual-boot NOT involving using Windows. There are plenty of other options to dual-boot among OSX/Linux, two different Linux distributions, etc.

If you ARE using Windows, then you need to pay for a license to use Windows or qualify for some free upgrade or other program/exception under which terms will be very clearly detailed.

There are various sites where you can download Windows in various forms. There is no site which tricks anyone (other than nuts like you) into thinking that they are getting Windows free simply because they provide a means to download it. If you want to try to dispute that, then post the specific site; otherwise, STFU and go back to drooling on yourself.

SNAP - I did forget to mention one thingy (same outcome).

the download never said complete. it downloaded 3G (it does the other 50G later) very quickly, then for an hour did NOTHING.

But I checked the result every thing seemed intact (AS IF I HAD A CHOICE).

I did the download on two diff "images", same result (it's the MS server fucking me over - i have no such issues on any other website and yes i've downloaded 3G+ before).

Same difference where you put the blame. Result is same: the King controls you, you have no way alter or fix what they are doing, they are doing it wrong (perhaps to pressure sale you into $200 - as i said many swore to me including persons above my issue was I hadn't paid. which btw turns out to be YET ANOTHER LIE).

I don't have time to spend an hour just to see if other people aren't intently fucking me over, having no recourse if they did.

THE RESULT: is exactly the same. steered to pay $200 by a glitch they created, people jumping on me (perhaps from COX networks) urging me to pay $200. I'm fucked lost time and cannot sue a DEMOCRAT RUN CRIME ORGANIZATION because of my locality
