Balloon Boy, "We did this for the show."
Date: October 16, 2009 08:46AM

Damning evidence that this was all a PR stunt to get a reality series...

CNN's Wolf Blitzer was interviewing the family on Larry King Live when the boy's father, Richard Heene, asked his son why he didn't come out from his hiding place if he could hear people calling for him.

The boy's reply: "We did this for the show." That was followed by several awkward moments of silence from the parents, who have been appearing on the ABC reality show Wife Swap.

During another live interview on NBC Friday, Falcon threw up into a container when his father was answering the same question.

The kid throwing up live on TV...

This is getting worse and worse.

I guess they couldn't let Jon and Kate have all the fun.

EDIT: Wow, look at that fake sincerity. He needs to take a couple acting lessons.

EDIT 2: Did he drug that kid before taking him on that show, to make sure he wouldn't open his inconvenient mouth again?

No shit. The fact that his kid threw up live on TV and he seemed disgusted but did nothing in terms of showing concern or trying to wrap up the segment speaks volumes. The dad is either lying or is indifferent to what this whole incident is doing to his kids. In either case, he is being a douchebag.

1. If all an innocent mistake - the parents are not protecting the kids by exposing them to TV interviews.

2. Its not an innocent mistake - the parents are attention whores.
3. The parents seem to think being famous or infamous will help them and/or their kids.
4. Call Child Services they are not fit parents.
5. lol

That dad creeps the hell out of me and "yoko ono" doesn't seem a whole lot better.

Poor kid seemed pretty drugged up in that 2nd video, too.

Anyone else find it coincidental that this "event" took place on the Jessica McClure media frenzy anniversary?

Maybe runaway balloons are the new wells.

lol, when a kid says they are going to throw up, you have no more than three seconds to get something under them. I love how Meredith didn't laugh or anything.

This is NOT looking good for Daddy.
He has taken every chance to look like a complete liar and asshole on national TV. I see a big investigation in his future... and a divorce.

Colorado is a couple of hours behind the east coast, so the kid had probably been up since 3am, so it is entirely possible that he was tired and not drugged. As for the vomiting, that could have been nerves (whether or not his dad is lying). Or, he could have been drugged and threw up from the drugs.

Mean while the American public is addicted to hearing more about the family and they make money off their story.

I guess it's better than a mass murderer trying to get famous.

I hope the parents get charged for all of the man hours, equipment, etc. that were used in this nonsense - if it was a stunt/hoax.

If this is a hoax, they won't make a dime in the end. The lawyers and lawsuits will take care of that.

The father lost the benefit of the doubt already, so I think this is the more logical explanation. If he's sick and sleepy and such, they can't ask him a bunch of questions to make the family look worse.

I guess if he did come up with this whole idea, and made his kid hide in an attic crawlspace by himself for five hours, drugging the kid wouldn't be beyond reason (or his sense of reason, anyway).

Well, at least a serious news outlet is on the "drugged" angle...

If that's the case, then why aren't the other kids zonked out, too? They seem alert yet subdued.

The kid had a big shit-eating grin on his face when his father was pretending to be overcome by emotion, but in the clip above, he's a fucking zombie. He didn't even puke anything up, and the father makes no mention of him even being sick or otherwise under the weather.

Finally, the father just looks like a douche. I say it's all bullshit, and he needs to be beaten mercilessly.

While I think the guy is a lying douchebag and probably capable of drugging the kid, I think there are reasonable explanations either way. But I do think it is all bullshit.

why wasn't he chasing the balloon in his truck? that's what he does for a living or for a hobby. his wife initially placed the call to 911. there was a 30 minute lapse before the police came.

The other thing to think about is the comment the dad made about them video-taping the kid crawling into the balloon and that's how they knew he was in it. Where's the tape? Have cops looked at it? Why were they taping at that time? Did the tape show the kid crawling out? Did it end? Why?

I really don't know if this whole thing is a set up or not. The guy isn't doing himself or his family any favors by going on all of these shows and then attacking the press for asking questions. He either needs to get a PR consultant or stop dragging his family in front of the press.

The SNL skit just writes itself. I would guess that Fred Armisen plays the barfing, overly truthful kid.

I don't know. After watching the video the family made, I think they may be telling the truth. They were videoing an experiment where the balloon would hover at around 20 feet, but still be tethered. The dad seems genuinely upset that the thing wasn't tied down. If Falcon was to blame and he witnessed that, he might have had a good reason to hide. Also, maybe the parents called their video taping a "show" as they got everything ready and that is what poor Falcon was referencing. Either way the media frenzy is astounding. (Doesn't mean I don't still think the family is batshit crazy)

Heene Family's Reality Is TV

Posted Oct 16th 2009 2:05PM by TMZ Staff

UPDATE 2:20 PM ET -- A TLC official tells TMZ the Heene family approached the network "months ago" with a reality show idea, but the network passed.

TMZ has learned the Heene family has been pitching a reality show about the wacky family, as one TV source put it, "all over town."

We're told Richard Heene pitched a series to Reality Real, as well as RDF Productions. RDF produces "Wife Swap," on which the family appeared back in March.

We're also told the Heene's have made the rounds at the networks, including TLC. Of course, TLC produced "Jon & Kate Plus 8."

seems to me like this guy needs some money and a job. apparently he and his wife were aspiring actors for a while in ca and left because they owed a bunch of money. this kid saying you said we did this for the show only adds to the suspicion that this was a publicity stunt.

Seems like a lot of circumstantial evidence points to this thing being a PR stunt. I think that is the public perception now. If it was, shame on the parents. If it wasn't, it sucks to be them, but they really need to shut up about it and let the authorities take the lead and hope that they are at least officially exonerated.

Not for the act itself, but for the fake crying on national television. I haven't seen crying that bad since Glenn Beck.
