Do we really need another thread regarding "global warming?
Posted by: Figeroa ()
Date: October 13, 2009 08:31AM

From the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8299079.stm,

"WHAT HAPPENED TO GLOBAL WARMING?

By Paul Hudson
Climate correspondent, BBC News

"This headline may come as a bit of a surprise, so too might that fact that the warmest year recorded globally was not in 2008 or 2007, but in 1998.

"But it is true. For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.

"And our climate models did not forecast it, even though man-made carbon dioxide, the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued to rise."

I am not being responsible to my family if "going green" costs us money.

My 1998 Chevy Blazer gets 17.8 mph (according to overhead console), but my insurance is lower than that of a new car, as is my FFC personal property tax, and I haven't had a car payment in 10 years.

Putting "green" on a product is a boon for retailers who know that a certain segment of the population will be drawn to the product out of guilt or out of a sense of "being responsible." Buying "green" vegetables is a waste of money; the nutritional value is the same as non-green. Buying groceries at Whole Foods rather than Shoppers' Food Warehouse is a "trendy" waste of money.

How utterly presumptuous to think we're hurting the planet, and buying a "green" product will help it.

So we suck all the oil out of the ground, burn it, and pump the exhaust into our atmosphere. Worst case scenario: global warming kills us all. We become fossils. In several hundred million years, another species will evolve to the point where they use us as fuel. This discovery sparks invention and industry, the internet gets re-invented, and all this shit starts again.

Boo fucking hoo. The planet will be just fine (at least until it gets pulled into the Sun or a big-ass meteor hits it).

Brilliant, Mephisto. Again showing your intellect vis-a-vis the rest of us sloths, who can do little else than throw epithets against the Global Warming Alarmists, by lobbing a vanity-based argument at 'em.

I would predict, though, that your argument will be countered with a "for the children" appeal, i.e., that you are a selfish bastard and believe you have the right to doom our children and successive generations.

In any event, I don't know what the category would be, but MrMephisto - you deserve a Nobel Prize or something.

Well, the "for the children" argument is horseshit. If anybody really wanted to reduce their "carbon footprint," they'd go live like an Ewok. Oh, sure, there's things you can do to cut back a little bit, but it's the same as driving off a cliff at 55mph instead of 80mph.

Eventually, someone's kids are going to have to deal with the problem, but we don't care. We're doing our part with our Energy Star compliant appliances and our hybrid cars, right?

Fuck single ply. The comfort of my asshole has absolutely zero impact on the world.

A few anal fissures is the least a person can do for his/her planet.

"Ask not what your planet can do for you; ask what you can do for your planet."

Your children and your children's children will thank you for your sacrifice ... sort of like how we thank the so-called "greatest generation" for their sacrifices at Okinawa and Guadalcanal.

What I find absurd, is that all of this "Tax the Carbon, Outlaw Incandescents, Fine People!" rhetoric is not the answer to anything, but rather a politician/money hungry "greenie's" dream. If anyone REALLY wanted energy independence, and at the same time a "Clean" source of energy, they'd be promoting Nuclear power. Changing light bulbs and building "Wind Farms' is not going to do a damn thing in terms of taking away our need for Fossil fuels.

Isn't it so convenient that the promoters of these "Greenie" ideologies are placing the responsibility upon the shoulders of individuals, by attempting to degrade our lives through their ideals of how we should live, as opposed to actually improving our lives through the use of more efficient mass power sources?

Yeah, unfortunately by their logic we need fewer people.

We really need to advocate for more energy, be it nuclear or eventually fission, supplemented with solar, wind and natural gas. "Greenies" are funny though, they advocate for all these alternative energy sources, but they are a bunch of NIMBY jackasses that don't want it to impede their view of nature. You'll want to put solar panels on your house and it will violate HOA rules or something.

More bad news for Climate-Change-Alarmists:

MIAMI (Reuters) - ... the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season has been the quietest in more than a decade, offering a reprieve for residents in the danger zone and a chance for insurance firms to refill depleted coffers.

With the peak of the season -- late August to mid-October -- now behind, the Atlantic-Caribbean basin has seen just two hurricanes and a total of eight tropical storms.

* * *

If the full season, which runs from June through November, ended today, it would be the lowest number of storms since 1997. The last time an Atlantic season produced only two hurricanes was 1982.

Last I checked, "sophisticated/knowledgeable" people know how to spell correctly and don't throw about racist terms to demean those with opposite views.
