Can't u all be happy that our president wins a peace prize?
Posted by: america is fucked ()

I never thought I'd see the day that there are Americans who are not happy that our President won the Peace Prize? The words PEACE and AMERICA are spoken in the same sentence, and we are recognized world wide, but there are still people who don't want to see our country prosper and suceed. I can believe there are people out there who are upset that our president won the prize. You should be ashamed of yourselfes.

The award to Obama shows only that the Nobel committee is a fraud and an anti-american front group. Obama condemns his own country to the glee of this fraudulent committee. He reads speeches written by other people and earns a peace award. What a fraud the Nobel award has become.

He didn't deserve it.

If they had awarded the American Public the award for voting in Obama as President it would have made more sense. There are a number of other nominees that have been publicized (normally the list is not released for 50 years unless the folks making the nominators reveal it) that were more arguably more qualified.

The fact that the Norwegians decided to honor him when he has little in the way of actual accomplishment is more of an indication as to how "political" their decision is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwegian_Nobel_Committee
Quote

...
a Nobel Peace Prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses"... The other Nobel Prizes were to be awarded by Swedish bodies (Swedish Academy, Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Karolinska Institutet) that already existed, whereas the responsibility for the Peace Prize was given to the Norwegian Parliament, specifically "a committee of five persons to be elected" by it. A new body had to be created—the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
...

The scientific awards are judged by other academia, the Peace Prize by politicians. Yeah, that pretty much answers the question on that.

Then the forty-some percent who were the tea-bagging, racist, Joe the Plumber contingent who voted for McCain and Palin wouldn't have deserved it.

I am happy that Obama received it. I am happy that the international perception of the United States has changed so drastically. I am just perplexed why he received it now.

I'll be happy for him if he gives me the $1.2 million he is receiving with the award!

Really. Great point WTL, glad you had such a witty comeback on that one! You got me!

SNL gave a good summary. Jack Squat.

I wasn't trying to be witty. I was being honest. How else do you describe a President who has accomplished "Jack Squat" having approval ratings above 50% in this economic and political environment. It's because the alternative, the Joe the Plumber racist tea-bag gun-toting party, scares most Americans.

No - its because he has good presence, and the MSM plays up any positive news it can on him. If they pounded him like they did Bush, his approval ratings would drop in much the same way.

Even I like Obama in a personal way. When I hear him speak and see him interact with folks, the first impression you get of him is a good one. His main loss of support has been among independents, many of whom watch channels like Fox, and listen to talk radio other than NPR. So please, don't equate his approval ratings with anything political. Look at Congress - their ratings are as bad or worse then it was under Bush - is that the Republican's fault? LOL.

Bush won re-election in 2004. His approval ratings didn't seriously drop until 2005 when he jumped the shark with Katrina. The press was too soft on Bush for too long, in my opinion, because of 9/11.

3 million people watch Fox. Whatever independents watch Fox, it is a very, very small percentage. As for Obama's approval ratings, I have no doubt he would beat any Republican who were to run against him at this point.

Here's the take from Chap Petersen, local Fairfax State Senator:

http://oxroadsouth.com/2009/10/10/president-awarded-nobel-prize.aspx
Quote

I was driving my daughter to school on Friday when I heard on the radio that President Obama had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. This coming a few weeks after Tom Delay had joined "Dancing with the Stars."

Can this country have changed more in the past 5 years? And can things get any stranger?

Now I'm proud to support the President and I think he's doing a great job during a very tough time. There are those that disagree, and they are free to comment below and set me straight.

Having said that, I find it hard to believe that a prestigious international award is earned by our President when he has been in office such a brief time. Past Presidential recipients like Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson worked for years to resolve major global conflicts (Russo-Japanese war, World War I, etc). They received the award after these accomplishments had occurred.

No blame on President Obama. He didn't campaign for the Nobel. And he responded graciously. But if the Europeans on the Nobel Committee think that this award will "help" President Obama politically, then they really don't understand the U.S.

Now if Obama also wins the Heisman this year, that could be a game-changer.

I don't vote for Chap (but I know him and respect his opinions), but his reaction is what I would expect folks to have even if they support Obama. Just take this reaction and add a stronger mix of:

1. disbelief in the reasoning of the Nobel committee

and

2. less belief that he is doing a good job

and you get where I am on this.

In a stunning announcement, Millard Fillmore Senior High School chose Shawn Rabinowitz, an incoming junior, as next year’s valedictorian. The award was made, the valedictorian committee announced from Norway of all places, on the basis of “Mr. Rabinowitz’s intention to ace every course and graduate number one in class.” In a prepared statement, young Shawn called the unprecedented award, “f---ing awesome.”

How can you be so utterly naive so as to dance around speaking of "Peace", when halfway around the world our Men and Women are engaged in firefights and massive battles with Terrorists? There won't be "Peace" for a VERY long time, and there is no one to blame right now except for the Wahhabi Nutjobs, and people like Tiny-Jad of Iran, Chav-Shit of Venezuela, and that demented beaver running North Korea.

It's race baiting when GOP supporters produce materials like this?

It's not "playing the race card" when you point out actual racism.

Can you all spell the word cynicism..I can...FFXU! The Nobel prize was a repudiation of the Bush Administration and it's unamerican policies...a reward richly deserved..and I accept my small portion of the award...and say thank you to the Nobel Committee.

The Nobel committee has proven the Peace prize a fraud by this. You can try to paint it anythig you want but it has been proven a fraud, and the award went to one of the biggest frauds brought onto the American public.

Just following the examples of the Left from their years whining about Bush. Who's the real racist here?

Just like any leftist, hide behind racism when you have lost the argument.

Oh yeah, if we're talking about WORLD peace, there hasn't been any for all of History, and I can't see such a thing for a VERY long time. All that we can hope for are long periods of relative stability, and fewer major terrorist attacks.

Makes you wonder what kind of America we would have ended up with if we had decided to roll the Soviets at the end of WWII.

Also, if Truman had never interfered with General MacArthur, and we had ended up with a Unified Korean Peninsula, and possibly a Non-Commie China.
