By Beacon Journal staff

POSTED: 02:40 p.m. EDT, Sep 28, 2009

An Akron woman is jailed on her seventh drunken driving charge after crashing her car into another and injuring a child.

Stephanie Foy, 45, of Hoover Avenue, is being held in the Summit County Jail.

Akron police have charged her with DUI, tampering with evidence and obstructing official business. Police say her arrest Friday was her seventh for drunken driving since 1995.

Police say Foy was driving a 2002 Dodge Dakota that crashed into another vehicle about 3:30 p.m. Friday near Case Avenue and Newton Street.

A 6-year-old child was in the back seat of the car Foy struck, police said. The boy was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the car was not identified in reports.

Police at the scene said Foy smelled of alcohol, her eyes were bloodshot and her speech was slurred. She could not stand on her own and stumbled after exiting the vehicle. police said.

After she was arrested, Foy became belligerent and refused to give her name or to take a test to determine her blood-alcohol percentage, police said.

Why won't the government step in and do something about this?

I agree, think of the children and outlaw cars for God's sake! These things are DANGEROUS when in the wrong hands!

edit to add: and they aren't even guaranteed property by the Constitution! Why can't they go after the stuff that's constitutional to ban before they hit the stuff that's guaranteed by the Bill of Rights?

She was probably a Republican coming home from a Town Hall meeting.

So you are comparing gun owners to drunk drivers? Drunk driving is illegal. Are you saying that gun ownership should be illegal, too?

Inappropriate use of firearms is illegal, ownership is not.

Inappropriate use of a vehicle is illegal, ownership is not.

If you want to ban guns in an effort to prevent inappropriate use of guns, it follows that banning cars to avoid vehicular injury and deaths makes sense as well.

I'm just saying go after the cars first because they aren't protected by the Constitution. Doesn't that make sense?

Where have I said that guns should be banned? All I am saying is that the NRA is trying to make the equivalent argument of saying that driving at 100 mph is good because it saves time. What they should be saying is that cars are good but they should be driven responsibly, which requires education and training and a respect for others.

And, they'll sell cars to anybody with the money to buy them.

Most sales at gun shows are through a FFL which means background checks are performed on those purchases. The Gun Show loophole is a misnomer at best.

Right, I was making fun of the premise that guns are sold at gun shows to anyone with money to buy them, which some in the media like to say but it is totally false.
