The government will shut down next week, but all bets are off for October, warns Goldman Sachs .
The deadline for Washington lawmakers to approve a federal government budget is April 28, leaving members of Congress with just a handful of days when they head back to work on Monday to reach an agreement to avoid a shutdown. The odds of a the government coming to a partial halt next week are low, said Goldman Sachs policy analyst Alec Phillips in a note on Wednesday. The real test will be in October, when more serious decisions will need to be made.
"There is a risk of a partial federal shutdown, but we believe the risk is fairly low next week, rising slightly if the debate is pushed into May, and rising further still later this year," Phillips said.
This time since the GOP runs everything, riders can be approved to continue military , social security , Medicare and national parks. Leaving all the things the public doesn't care about out of work until the democrats cry uncle. Obama vetoed these riders last time. Republicans would be happy to fire most of the discretionary Feds .
Either way it looks like it's better to work for private sector than the government in these times of uncertainty. Not that I'm one to complain since I'm private contractor myself

It's funny because Trump stop spending on government employees which increased spending on private employees. The private companies are the ones that are always ripping off the gov left and right.

If you are a contractor on a government contract, you may be sitting out work as well. At some places, contractors can't bill time unless government workers are also working and billing time. So don't get smug too soon.

Yes, but contractors can back bill the time so many continue working and being paid. The company just submits the hours in the next bill. The only people who get screwed in gov shutdowns are the government workers.
Government won't shut down. I wish it would since I'm a Gov't lacky but it's not going to happen an even if it did anyone who works for the Gov't knows the drill when a shutdown happens................
We all have to come in Monday, sit at our desks for 4 hours, computer cannot be turned on, cannot talk business on the phone, then finally sign a piece of paper then leave the office.
For those of you that are in private industry, SERIOUSLY, this is the process that Gov't workers have to go through when the shutdown happens!
Ted Cruz's Las shut down cost 25 billion. This one would have paid for the wall if they do it again. Republicans can't even negotiate with themselves yet alone others. They have to manufacture crisis and take things hostage for leverage within their own party.

Gerry, Yes, shutting down the Gov't would pay for The Wall(how long should it be shutdown though to pay for it), HOWEVER, here is the problem........I've been through one shutdown and one furlough(there is a difference) and in both cases the Gov't retropaid its' employees for the days that were missed so in reality The Wall still gets paid through the taxpayers.
The Wall will be eventually paid through Trade between America and Mexico. Probably just tax more on their imports or exports from us.
Sorry you read what I wrote wrong. If they shut down the government they will cost taxpayers the amount of money it would take to the build the wall anyway and get nothing in return.
You know what I love. When whiny little Republican bitches complain and blame Democrats for not giving them the votes they need. Hello, you have majorities.

The poster doesn't understand that when industry is shutdown that is lost time and lost time is lost money. When you're not working your essentially losing money.
Gerry, go get your horsey (that always seems to calm him down) and your blankie. No, you can't use my cock as your passy, binky or whatever else you call it!

You seem to be under the impression that all contracts work the same way. Well, they don't. Some contractors are going to be shit outta luck if there is a shutdown--as in, no pay or having to use vacation/PTO.
How do government workers get screwed? They get their money in the end; contractors may not get anything.

You are dumb as shit. Shutting down the government and wasting billions of tax dollars is not what Trump was elected to do. Also appointing Goldman Sach people to run agencies isn't what Trump was elected to do. Talk about filling the swamp!
Trump was elected to repeal Obamacare and have Mexico pay for the wall. Trump has failed on both.
