They already have 75% of the NBA and 68% of the NFL, which are two of the three top paying professional sports. (Only 8% of the players in MLB are black.)
If there were enough athletes of color who could compete at the level of NASCAR or the NHL, they'd be in those sports, because professional sports cares about only one color: green.

Dam down to 8% in MLB is hard to believe...is that 8% down or up since mid 70's?

There's a SABR report that specifically talks about this at http://sabr.org/bioproj/topic/baseball-demographics-1947-2012, but basically Blacks hit their high point in 1981, when they were 18.7% of MLB. In 2016, it was down to 6.7%
The number of Latino players has increased to 27.4% from 11.1% over the same time.
