Personal Achievement

Personal Achievment

I can remember as a young teenager, visiting the local ice cream shop with my older brother Seth. Seth was a hard working, Christian, sales represntative who also volunteered his time as a consultant for the local Meals-on-Wheels program. At the ice cream shop, we would listen to our favorite music on the jukebox, eat numerous cones, and play a few rounds of the Profounded Starch Game before heading home. A few times there the manager came out from behind the counter and would shout loudly and stomp and kick his feet in a vioulent fashion, for all to see and enjoy.

Those times we spent at the old ice cream parlor were shared in a series of medical papers written by doctors who examined my brother after a serious accident. He was driving home from college one crisp fall afternoon, very proud that he just received an internship at a local check cashing service as an assistant notary public. His lifelong dreams were slowly coming true, and it wouldn’t be long before he got his own notary license. This all came crashing down upon our family when Seth got pinned under a piece of farm machinery and his leg got yanked off during a training visit to a local dairy farm.

After numerous surgeries, and rehabilitation, Seth regained his consciousness but years later was killed by a truck while crossing the street after he had already had too much to drink. He was 25 years of age, yet wise beyond his years and exceeded our family expectations.

Internship at a check cashing place? I can finally say that I've heard it all.

Did you know that if you have a heartbeat, can breathe and have a set of eyes that you too can be a notary? Here's how to become one in VA:

"An individual who is a resident of Virginia (or a resident of another state who normally works in Virginia) may become a notary public. They must be at least 18 years of age, have no unpardoned felony convictions, be able to read and write, and fill out an application (which itself must be notarized) which is sent to the Secretary of State. The application requires the applicant to obtain signatures of two Virginia voters attesting to the honesty and character of the applicant. The application to become a notary points out that since the persons who sign the application as voters are parties to the document, the notary who authenticates the applicant's signature cannot be either of those persons. Virginia officials request, but do not require, that the applicant include their social security number (they have also accepted Virginia drivers license numbers) on the form, for use as a unique identifier. The applicant may, by checking a box on the application, choose to remove the words "in the year of Our Lord" which normally appear before the year the commission is issued. While the applicant must swear that they have read the notary laws, there is no test or special knowledge required."

He should've just stayed on the farm milking teets for a living. -§

The squiggly S must stand for "Suckerrrrrrr..."

This is no "S" --------> §. Try google.

So, do you have an internship at a check cashing place like this tool in the original post? -§

im definitely going to have to disagree. besides the fact that it stands for Section, it is clear that it resembles an S. if you disagree, perhaps you also cant see the similarity between a circle and an oval.

I obviously know what it stands for since I'm in the trade - and it's still not the letter "S'. "§" is a symbol. "S" is a letter. Symbols are not letters. If they were, we'd have a really confusing alphabet.

Wait. Let me try something: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQR§TUVWXYZ.

Well I'll be damned. -§

Symbol is loosely defined in this case. The narrow interpretation is that symbols are a short-form of words and phrases - something that letters are not. -§

gravis, he's just arguing to argue, which had me confused, because he at one point in another thread essentially said you were correct, and then he seemed to just change his mind and decided to be anal retentive about something that doesn't matter at all, namely, that the squiggly sign stands for "section", as you correctly pointed out.

What blows my mind is if this guy is a lawyer (I doubt it), why would anyone hire him if he's such a tool over nothing?

Yes I'm arguing to argue. It's entertaining to me. But in what way did I change my mind? By saying that this ----> "§" is not this -----> "S"? Remember, I'm responding in the context of THIS thread. Not another thread.

I get paid to persuade, not argue. I haven't seen a courtroom since mock trial - I'm 100% corporate. For christsakes, loosen up. -§

the really fucked up part was that johnboy was usually in bed with one of the youngins when they would all say goodniight... if you listen carefully to the group, you can hear one very muffled "good night" in the group, followed by a moan of pain.

The [notary] application requires the applicant to obtain signatures of two Virginia voters attesting to the honesty and character of the applicant.

there are several members of this board that would find this requirement difficult.

A differant perspective.

My idiot cousin Seth grew up in a backwards ass town called front royal. THat lil sawed off hick would go down to the local Eat n Squat and glutton his country ass out on ice cream. He would Act a fool for all to see his ignorence till the poor put upon manager would have to come out and break up the foolishness and send him home. The manager couldnt stand it when seth would run out of money and ACT as if he was a loyal customer he was OWED a free ice cream.

Years later he was driving home from community college in a stolen car. He was going to bragg about how our uncle Hollis had pulled his family connections to get seth an internship. An internship he badly needed as he was about to get kicked out of school for being alcoholic and skipping classes. Needless to say the drunkard Seth wrecked that damn car that night. He was heading home and rammed into a good honest farmer who was driving his wife and himself home from a movie. Our other uncle Jasper, the sherriff of Front Royal is the only reason Seth wasnt thrown in jail and charged with DUI. Anyway long story short, the drunken idiot Seth always showed up to his community service at a dairy farm sloshed and needless to say there was an accident when he was once again acting a fool and lost his legs. This time noone could pull family connections and keep his legs. He spiralled down into depression and alcoholism till the end mercifully came at 25 when he drunkenly staggered into the street and was killed. God rest his idiot soul.
