NASA sucks. Since the 1950s I've watched my government pouring billions and billions of dollars down the toilet for some moon rocks or pictures of Mars or whatever. All the while there are 2.5 million homeless children living in America. All the while people are dyeing from diseases we've had the cures to. All the while they can't afford body cameras for beat cops or even to fix the pot hole in front of my house.
How much do those rich kids get paid coming straight out of college to work at NASA? While I have to work two jobs just to get by? So everyday I wake up screaming fuck NASA.
Now John Glenn is dead, left me here to sing this song. I've seen kids protesting high tuition rates getting pepper spayed in their faces. Could've used that money we wasted on NASA.
What has NASA given us for all of the money that we have given them? NOTHING. Zip, zero, zilch, nada, the big goose egg. We get nothing. The rich get richer and the poor get children.
When I was growing up it was a big deal that retirees were not getting enough money from SSI to cover rent, utilities and food. Several older people died during the winter because they couldn't afford to keep the utilities on. And many retirees had to eat dog food because it was all that they could afford. Today the Republicans and Democrats keep taking about cuts to SSI, Medicaid and all other social services, I just keep thinking that if it wasn't for NASA, we could afford all those things and so much more. So I say fuck John Glenn and fuck NASA too. And if you don't like it, I sure wish you'd get out of America and stop ruining it for the rest of us.
But you keep going to the moon and we will keep starving because the rest of you have been bought off with some shiny trinkets and bullshit pie-in-the-sky promises.

NASA is about .46% of the total federal budget. That is less than one half of one percent. That is practically a drop in the bucket. But the space program is one of the few parts of government spending that does have a net positive effect on the economy. In fact every dollar spent on NASA has returned between $7 and $14 back to the economy. By the way the armor your cops wear and the polymers that fix your potholes are both spinoffs of research done for the space program.

Don't know about "fuck John Glen" but NASA is / was a tremendous expenditure for not a whole lot of gain. The Telescopes sending back pictures is kind of cool but the money could have been better spent. NASA should have closed the doors after we landed on the moon.
