United States Steel would like to accelerate its investments and hire back laid-off employees now that Donald Trump will be occupying the Oval Office, CEO Mario Longhi told CNBC on Wednesday.

"We already structured to do some things, but when you see in the near future improvement to the tax laws, improvements to regulation, those two things by themselves may be a significant driver to what we're going to do," he said in an interview with CNBC's "Power Lunch."

In addition, the belief that the U.S. economy can grow at least 3.5 percent also adds to what the company can do, Longhi noted.

"I'd be more than happy to bring back the employees we've been forced to lay off during that depressive period," he said, which could be close to 10,000 jobs.

Just the optics alone of Trump creating all these jobs before even entering office is good for the country and economy. Even if it is not a lot of jobs, it's a start and convincing Carrier to keep from sending 1000 jobs when they already had the plant built in Mexico is great theater for the average American worker. Even David Axelrod admitted this. Most Liberals don't tend to work so these concepts are lost on them. They will continue to see everything Trump has done as bad no matter what.

Depending on when he was building, Chinese steel was all you could get, you moron. There was even a shortage of Chinese rebar in 2005 which held up a lot of projects. They decimated the American steel industry so who else could he buy from, retard? He's bringing the industry back and will tax foreign shit like they tax our stuff so American steel will be at least competitive again and available. Unfortunately when we impose tariff on steel from China they and others will impose tariffs on us.



steel and furnaces are important but not the majority of our economy. If we sacrifice trade for anything it should not be for those. If we do the tech and agriculture industries will be devastated by tariffs imposed on their goods and services by other countries...

Get rid of the EPA domination of American Manufacturing. Lower taxes on Manufacturing companies and let the market set prices for raw materials used and that in and of itself will go a long way to making Made in The USA competitive with off shore manufacturing. No need for tariffs on imported goods but make US made stuff cost competitive with goods made over seas and we will naturally buy less foreign made goods. If China wants to stop buying food from the US they can. Fuck em they'll be back when they get hungry enough.

Bought because it was cheaper due to US subsidizing and preferred because it didn't fall under US control where a certain percentage had to be recycled steel.

why shouldn't usa steel use the famous "japanese steel patent" for making quality competitive steel using the same method?

i don't even see why for ~ $2,000 japan was given a patent for simply using a different kind of container/pipe anyway. these processes were used in usa for many products before japan was awarded the patent.

using piped containment of product (pneumatics, blow mold injection, etc) is a process that is used for about any process these days
