I've disagreed in a fervent and fairly heated manner with Thurston over some issues, but I agree with him on quite a bit as well. I would say that he is an independent minded individual, which is to be respected.

Hey, I will gladly accept the award. It has about as much meaning on this forum as it does calling losers who don't register Cowards.

I mean seriously, who cares. But please, keep stroking yourselves - it is definitely one of the more amusing aspects of this place.

I feel like I should have had a speech prepared, but this was such an unexpected honor.

There is someone here on the forum that seems to be really touchy about their income and social status.

I made a comment about someone managing a McDonald's, making $27,000 a year, but being a loser with no degree and going home smelling like processed food every night. A few hours later, this thread appeared.

A few weeks back, I made some comments about those turnpike tech online schools and losers who make shit wages, and I got nominated for douchebag of the year then, too.

Whoever it is obviously feels a little envy towards those of us who don't have to punch in on the time clock every morning.

I don't know what the OP's beef is, but for me your douchiness is rooted in your epic cheapness. See the salad thread for a reference. You seem to be one of those types of people that feel that people spend more money on things for status alone.

Take that up with the OP. He's the one that has the negative opinion of it.

It's not cheapness to look down on people who spend for the sake of impressing others. It's also not cheap to know when to spend money and when not to.

Spending $10 on some leaves and chopped vegetables that you could have for $3 is just being impractical.

I don't punch a time clock, but there's this guy at work (not my superior, btw) who keeps a chart of every time I arrive a minute or two late. Can I punch him instead?

If he isn't your supervisor, why does he feel the need to keep track of when you come in?

Because he's an insecure little hobbit who thinks he can gain brownie points with the owner by pointing out my tardiness. He's actually my equal, org-chart-wise, but he's not happy unless he's bitching about something. He lives in a tiny rented apartment above the business, whereas I commute down rt 28 and rt 66 every morning. Tardiness is the one area where he's got me beat. If it actually had any effect on my standing at work, I might actually care a little. But pretty much everyone there thinks it's laughable.

Fuck people like that. Unless you are screwing up in some other way, people like that only make themselves look petty and end up screwing themselves.

I've never kept "office hours" in any job other than when I was an hourly employee or working in banking or retail during high school.

If you work in a project oriented field, all that matters is meeting deadlines and producing quality work.

I had one boss that told me he didn't care if he never saw me other than on the days I had a project due, but he would fire me if I ever missed more than 3 deadlines.

That's it exactly. I have a schedule of when I am supposed to come in, and when I'm supposed to leave, but it's understood that I have a killer commute (literally rated one of the worst in the country), and the quality of my work is more important than the second that I arrive. If it's imperative that I arrive on time, I'm there. Of course, this guy never keeps track of the times I stay late to take care of problems.

Anyway, now it's starting to sound like I'm just whining, so I'll stop.
Let's get back to that "Douchebag of the Year" thing. How's that working out for you? Do you get a trophy or something?

Well, then just be sure to occassionaly bring it up subtly to your boss. You know like if you're walking to lunch with him or something, or on the elevator talking casually, change the subject somehow to this guy, then lead into "does he monitor everyone's hours, or just mine?" or "Did you ask him to keep track of everyone's comings and goings, because it sort of creeps me out" or something. Whatever seems appropriate at the moment.

You could even add a little dig back at him by saying something like "It's a shame he never sticks around late enough to get an accurate departure time for me"

I had a co-worker at a previous job that arrived at 7:30 and left at 3:00 sharp every day. He used to bitch and moan to my boss all the time about my arriving at 11:15 - 11:45 each day. My boss used to tell me about how much it annoyed the fuck out of him to hear the guy bitching and groaning about my hours. He always told this guy that I was still at my desk every night when he left at 7pm, and sometimes got emails from me or calls at his home from me after 8, so he should just shut up because I was working just as many hours as him, and besides, I was on call 24/7 in case of a server problem, and had often driven all the way out to Verio on 28 at 2 in the morning to swap out bad hardware or whatever.

He was long gone well before I moved onto another job. I think his whining led my boss to choose him during a round of lay offs.

I was hoping for at least a token trophy, but so far I haven't gotten anything.

Or at least a gift certificate from the tapout merchandise store.

I'm still holding out for the $9 gift certificate for the tapout merchandise.

With $9 I could buy the three dollar tap out wife beater, the three dollar pair of sweat pants that say "tap" on the left butt cheek and "out" on the right butt cheek (because you know what that means!) and I would still have 6 dollars left over to get the neck tattoo.

No, wait. I would still have 9 dollars left for the tattoo. Or was it 12 dollars?

lol, that math shit is ghey.

NO!

But wait, I was the one who mentioned the time cards, but I brought it up only as a metaphor to the problem the OP had with me talking about hourly employees and whatever else the OP had issues with.

I really think I still deserve this award.

Come on! Please?

So, yeah, I can accept that.

As far as the ceremony being relocated to the econolodge, I'm a little bit perplexed.

Westpark is a pretty shitty hotel in it's own right. How much cheaper could the econolodge be?

there was a ceremony discount, so we are going all out this time, just for you (TM). the econolodge is wwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaayyyyy better. the sheets are slightly less scratchy. as far the open bar, they may have a mini bar but i think that is in the presidential suite.

Since this is the douchebag awards, it is done in a bit more of a douchey manner.

We don't follow traditional protocol, because well, we're douchebags and fuck if we know what protocol even means. That's a word they don't use too much at tapout events.

There are no speeches. We all just shout out one or two syllable sounds at random.

The function of conservatives is not to meet every liberal program or scheme with a denunciation or a destructive counterscheme, but rather to weigh its advantages and defects, supporting the first and challenging the second. A declaration of ideological warfare against liberalism is by its nature profoundly unconservative. It meets perceived radicalism with a counterradicalism of its own.

Who's bringing the skanky bitches? No respectable douchebag is ever seen in public without a really skanky woman. The more tatoos and the less clothes, the better!

We should have a douche-out at the event, to begin next year's douche choice awards -- whoever has the fakest tan and the most ridiculously out of place jewelry, and the most expensive t-shirt with the most original design wins 100 extra points towards next year's awards!

Extra points if your bluetoof earpiece flashes with more than one colored LED.
