Boondock saints is completely over rated. The Long Haired Italian guy cant act. The Gay FBI agent is hammy and WAY over the top. The dialogue is stupid.

Dolemite on the other hand is badly acted, there are scenes and plot holes that make no sense and you can often see boom mics and the tops of sets BUT its fucking great fun watching Dolemite tear ass around Los Angeles.

Boondock saints Thumbs down

Dolemite Thumbs up

Dishonarable mention; Sweet sweet backs badass song (the original)

Honorable mention; intermission. Colin Ferrel plays a thug bad ass.

Office Space and Fletch

Office Space:
Peter Gibbons: Let me ask you something. When you come in on Monday and you're not feeling real well, does anyone ever say to you, "Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays"?

Lawrence: No. No, man. Shit, no, man. I believe you'd get your ass kicked sayin' something like that, man.

Fletch:
I'm afraid I'm gonna have to pull rank on you. I didn't want to have to do this. I'm with the Mattress Police. There are no tags on these mattresses.

I'd also nominate Harmony Korine's "Gummo" as one the best cult films (one of my favorites, at least). It was so weird, unsettling and WTF-funny that it's the only time I ever watched the same movie twice in a row.

* She-wolf of the SS

The Wall was a great, but highly disturbing film. The scene of young Pink coming across old Pink on the floor in the hospital has always sent chills through me.

Best: Stop Making Sense

Worst: The Goonies
/ducks

To be fair, I never watched it when I was a kid, so I don't have the nostalgia for it like I do for other childhood movies that I still love (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, for example). Also, I think I've been spoiled by the trend starting in the late 90s by Pixar where movies that are ostensibly for kids still are well-written, complex and entertaining for adults as well. The Goonies just doesn't seem intended for anyone over the age of 12.

Love the Evil Deads/Army of Darkness trio...Bruce Campbell is great.

Good call on Blue Velvet Meeper.

It's been awhile, but The Blob. Countless times I watched this flic as a kid back in the day when Fox 5 used to just play old movies on the weekends, maybe DC20 played it too. If nothing, good for a few chuckles.

I was going to say that, though I do think the original Hairspray was pretty good.

Same thing goes for Prince. Outside of Purple Rain, everything else he did back in the 80s (Under the Cherry Moon, Sign O' the Times, Graffiti Bridge), was shit.

The original Mad Max was great, but I think Road Warrior was better.

Also, anything from the 70s featuring Caroline Munro wearing next to nothing has to be considered a cult classic, regardless of how good or bad the film actually is because, well, they feature Caroline Munro wearing next to nothing..

Other ones that I love: Harold and Maude, Pink Floyds the Wall, Welcome to the Dollhouse, Elephant, Mirrormask, the Labyrinth, Edward Scissorhands, Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Stand By Me..... yeah-i like a lot of movies.

I'm sure people will attack my other favorites or say that they don't qualify as "cult".

Princess Bride... Like Graymoose, not a woman, but I love that movie.

A few I didn't see mentioned so far... "A Boy and His Dog", "Killer Klowns From Outer Space", "Spaced Invaders", "the Hidden". (Did someone mention "They Live"?, if not, that one too.)

Special Mention for Gene Simmons as an awesome villain: "Runaway" and "Wanted: Dead or Alive".

I keep popping over to the DVD closet to spark my memory. Problem is, some of the "cultest" were on VHS, and are lost to the ages. Classics from the Linnea Quigley oevre, like "Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-a-Rama", and "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers". OH CRAP!! How could I forget "Surf II"? I don't believe that classics like The Exorcist, Fargo and Psycho are considered "cult films." My definition of a cult film is something that was made by a well-known director/producer that failed critically and/or financially at the time of its release, only to become a cult success after the fact (examples would include The Big Lebowski, Office Space, Touch of Evil or ZARDOZ), or, more commonly, a cult film is a movie that had no business being a success due to a poor budget or odd premise but ended up with a cult following (examples would include Rocky Horror Picture Show, Vanishing Point, Heavy Metal or Princess Bride).

I don't believe Oscar-nominated/winning films that were box office hits - Fargo and The Exorcist in particular - are cult films.

Good movie! Not a cult classic yet, but give it some time.

I take it you're a big Danny McBride fan?

A great cult film. I am embarassed to say I went to high school with the clown in the DC101 shirt. Maybe that is why I never went to any reunions.

It is great, but it's not really a "film" though. The whole thing is only like 15 minutes long. An entire full length movie of that would have been EXCELLENT!

There are people in my hometown that still dress and act like that.

The fact that this movie is not available on DVD is a travesty!

My Demon Lover (1987) featuring the guy who played "Nick" on Family Ties. This stupid thing ended up being played at every kegger I went to...

Never understood why, because it sucked.

I would venture that Equilibrium is a cult film, even though it's more recent.

It didn't do well in theaters, but they couldn't keep it stocked when it went to DVD.

Ever seen the Guinea Pig series? He Never Dies was the best one.

Hasn't anybody here seen Schizopolis? The only film director Steven Soderbergh ever acted in, it's also his best. Speaking of him, the original British TV mini-series that Traffic was based on (Traffik) is well worth seeking out.

Nose army!
