The second amendment should be abolished completely, and all fire arms should be exclusively possessed by military and other security personnel. There just isn't a need for an individual to have a high caliber rifle or pistol. If you want protection, get a dog or ADT. average police response times are between 8-15 minutes. You can hold out until in. Trust law enforcement.

The Founders of the Constitution understood the document would need to be updated, and they created a mechanism for doing so. If you don't think the 2nd Amendment is appropriate for a 21st century America, then get an amendment passed to repeal it.
