My times watching TV on the farm
Posted by: Mt Jackson ()

I was 7 years old on the old family farm in Mt. Jackson. We had a rabbit ear television and I would watch TGIF. It was 1988 and after a week of school I'd watch TV on Friday. Dad would drink a 24 case of beer and we'd cook steak dinner. I watched Full House and would ask dad "dad are all city folk goofy like this?" He would drink a beer and say "yes son yes indeed." I'm now city folk and I work at DIA. I watch Nick at Nite and I see those old episodes. I'm a city boy now.

I get nostalgic about those days. A dark cold winter day helping dad out on the farm. Friends and I used to play in abandoned milk buildings. Sunday football dad and I would put the radio in top of the TV. I saw my first negro family on Family Matters. I live in a condo in Tysons Corner above the Harris Teeter. It's just not the same with cable

There were two negro families in Mt. Jackson. They acted the same as all the white people and everyone treated them the same. At one point the high school had two black students and one of them was the president of the student government.

I remember Sunday winter mornings well. The sun was piercing the mountains and the grass was frozen. Looking at my breath I knew why winter was so depressing. Winter meant that dad couldn't sweat out his hangover. After feeding the live stock it was time for church. As soon as I would nod off, dad would gently smack the back of my head and say "pay attention boy these are life lessons." As soon as chores were done it was off to Country Cooking for a Sunday meal. I hated waking up for school the next morning

Tomorrow I tell the tales of the blizzard of 93 in Mt Jackson. I miss listening to the radio and eating Chicken Tonight.

While watching TGIF one Friday pa made us dinner. He was stumbling in the kitchen and put the groceries down. He went to the dollar store and got us Chicken Tonight. It was marinara sauce with onions and peppers. The night was cold and dad just got his truck back from the shop. While watching Step by Step he gives me my chicken dinner. It looked and smelled like a sack full of assholes.

Pa says "come on boy you better eat that goddamn chicken you hear?"

"Back in your granddaddy's days he ate crawdad from the creek. No crawdad he ate grass."

I got myself a glass of whole milk and tried to eat my dinner. Pa sits down and drinks another beer. The cold breeze cuts right through the cheap installation. Dad forgot to pay the oil bill again. I walk outside into the cold night, look at the full moon, and light up a cigarette I hid in the barn. I never left the state and our food stamps were about to run out.

I care. I don't have anyone else to tell these stories to. Unless you grew up poor and in the country you wouldn't relate. My best childhood friend growing up got molested by her pa. Now she's tattooed, 4 kids from 4 different daddies, fat, and sells herself online. You city folk don't know what rough is.

air waves (like wifi) were FREE

cable tv promised if you switched an advantage was "no commercials" (except maybe a pepsi held during show)

congress promised when cable tv "took away" that the poor would still have free access (NOTE NBC is not a child of California wealthy, but the Federal Government), though California like to sometimes (imply) it is private and not subject to (fair hiring, fair contracting, etc)

-----------------------

now look today: is Satellite or COX free for anyone? no, just obama specials that get deals behind closed doors, like they get free fire detectors + install (do I? no.)

is satellite or COX or FIOS commercial free? no. talk about cost over-run

were people really getting sick due to intense radio waves from TV broadcasting clean signals (full tilt) ? maybe.

Sorry to break this to you, but radio waves from TV broadcast signals are coming at you even if your TV is connected to cable, FiOS, or satellite dish.

Bronies I am going back to that farm on Mt. Jackson, it was the best time of my life. Burton and Pascal are coming with me. We might go down to Miami for Christmas then back to Jackson. We will be selling maple syrup in the spring.

Maple syrup is harvested in the northern states, not Jackson, MS. Broner.

Brony, it's Mt. Jackson, NH.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Jackson_(New_Hampshire)

The OP (Moreno) said the fictional farm was a place without negros, and which had cold winters. Therefore it can't be Jackson MS.

You're making it difficult for me to read eloquent, thoughtful political discussion here on ffu. Besides, we all know that eesh, miz, all their little friends, and also all their alternate personalities are retarded little drama queen bitches. Fuck all of them and fuck this thread. Oh, and fuck you for good measure. But I said that already, didn't i?
