Navy Sailor Refuses to Stand During National Anthem

A U.S. Navy sailor is under investigation for refusing to stand during the national anthem.

Intelligence Specialist 2nd Class Janaye Ervin, a reservist stationed at Pearl Harbor, posted on Facebook about why she's following in the footsteps of Colin Kaepernick and others who have demonstrated against police brutality during the anthem.

"I feel like a hypocrite singing about the 'land of the free' when I know that only applies to some Americans," she wrote. "I will gladly stand again, when ALL AMERICANS are afforded the same freedom."

Ervin says she lost her security clearance and was threatened with jail by the Navy in response to her actions.

Troops who don’t stand for the national anthem could face prosecution under the Uniform Code of Military Justice for violating Article 92, which states that troops can be punished for failing to obey a lawful general order.

I have been proudly serving in the US Navy Reserve Force since November 2008. I have pledged to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and to spread freedom and democracy around the world. I will never waver from that pledge. On September 19,2016, while in uniform, I made the conscious decision to not stand for the Star Spangled Banner because I feel like a hypocrite, singing about "land of the free" when, I know that only applies to so...me Americans. I will gladly stand again, when ALL AMERICANS are afforded the same freedom. The Navy has decided to punish me for defending the Constitution and has taken away my equipment I need to do my Naval job. It was my pleasure serving my country, I love it dearly, that is why I must do this for you. As a retired Navy Corpsman who had the privilege of serving with the United States Marine Corps...and tending to wounded and dying young men...I find this laughing piece of shit to be disgusting...General Courts Martial and execution would be in order...put Bergdahl with this garbage so no one can say we are out to get colored people only.

Who doesn’t have the same freedom as others? Everyone has the same freedoms. What is this person talking about? Wasn’t slavery abolished already. Did I miss something? Can you imagine how much money wouldn't be wasted on social issues and inner cities mifht actually become inhabitable. Think about how how much more productive most companies would be. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of fine upstanding black people in this country that aren't this way at all, but unfortunately many of them are thugs.
