I couldn't believe I was reading this... with all of the criticism of the USA PATRIOT Act all the demokrats voted for, they now want to do THIS? This is a bill introduced by Rockefeller, demokrat from west virginia.

Just another "oh my God, he is going to kill grandma scare tactic".
If some major threat to the security of private citizens and corporations was about to, or is happening, wouldn't you want someone to pull the plug for a few minutes to let the experts to figure it out?
Even Wall Street has such a system to halt trading is something major is messing with the system.

I'm actually glad groups are keeping any eye on this- we should be watchful of how our government handles this kind of power. But if a terrorist group somehow used an advanced virus attack to gain control of our nuclear reactors, ATC systems, etc., I certainly think the govt. should be able to temporarily control the internet so as to avert disaster.

Who cares what his title said at this point. If you read the article you can draw your own conclusion.
As you well know, conVince tends to emulate his arch-nemesis - so you can blame the titling of the thread on that.
Note how my comments were geared toward the "money" portions of the document. Sure, does it make sense there should be control potentially somewhere - yes. But since so many people now use the internet backbone as their primary means to communicate, it might be something worth taking a hard look at if you are a civil libertarian.
