US Agreements for Access to Columbian Military Facilities

Hillary Clinton's trip to Columbia to discuss increased access for US military forces to Columbian facilities is causing a bit of controversy, here is an article talking about it.

Is this provocative, or justified for US national security reasons?

considering the military position we are in, they are not in any danger if they dont attack us. if they do attack, we are likely to be diplomatic about it because we have our hands full. the lease we made with colombia is for 10 years and we will still be invested in the East during that time, so it's a lot of worrying for nothing. why we are putting people there is something i dont know.

Chavez just hates the US and wants to make a big deal about everything we do.

Chavez makes money on oil and drug trade. He uses that money to support FARC to try and destabilize Colombia.

Quote

...
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has called the plan a serious threat to the region. While Colombia's ties with most of the continent have been generally cordial, Colombia has feuded with Ecuador and Venezuela over their leftist leaders' alleged ties with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, which has been seeking to overthrow governments in Bogota for 45 years.
...

So his delusional rants are just that.

EDIT: Maybe the study that showed we had so much of our money contaminated with cocaine is what precipitated this increase of support for Colombia? :)

Seems like most the world id delusional to some people.

Placing a U.S. military presence any where in the world is not a benign act. It is an act of agression. Imagine our reaction to the Russians placing a military presence in Venezuela. You guys would be crying the blues and calling for an all out invasion. Our history in the region could lead any intelligent person to believing the anti-US propaganda that will be generated by this.
