It just gets better and better. Meredith McIver, an in-house writer on the Trump campaign and ghostwriter of Trump's books, has taken responsibility for the plagiarism in Melania's speech. In doing so, however, she has only made things worse. An excerpt from her letter...
In working with Melania Trump on her recent First Lady speech, we
discussed many people who inspired her and messages she wanted to share
with the American people. A person she has always liked is Michelle Obama.
Over the phone, she read me some passages from Mrs. Obama's speech as
examples. I wrote them down and later included some of the phrasing in the
draft that ultimately became the final speech. I did not check Mrs. Obama's speeches.
McIver goes on to say that she offered Trump her resignation, but he refused. She then offered to write an apology letter, and Trump told her to go ahead. Unfortunately, no one seems to have vetted McGiver's apology, where she committed a cardinal sin - saying that Melania admires Michelle Obama. That just isn't done.
Meanwhile, Paul Manafort and his surrogates have absolutely insisted since this first blew up that there was no plagiarism in Melania's speech, despite the fact that there clearly was. And he pinned it on Hillary, who had nothing to do with any of this.
To top it off, Trump sent out a Twitter in the last hour saying something to the effect that it's great that Melania's speech is getting so much attention. Meanwhile, we go into day three of the convention dominated by Melania's speech.
Obviously, the Trump supporters view this as a blip. It's not. This whole incident brings to light the fact that the Trump organization is in chaos, with absolutely no coordination among the major players. Trump and his campaign manager are working with different scripts. You simply can't have that in a high level political campaign. The American people need to wake up and realize that the Republican nominee is a joke who can't run his own campaign, let alone the country.

- Instead of just shutting up and stopping while he's behind, Trump actually tweets that any publicity is good publicity. It isn't.
This is a rarely seen level of incompetence. This sort of amateur crap would be inexcusable in a campaign for homecoming queen, let alone the Presidency. You can slam Hillary all you want, but it doesn't make Trump look any better.

No, truth be told it was a pedestrian speech given in a pedestrian manner. There was no passion, no personality, nothing to give us insight into the 'real' Donald Trump. The whole point of the wife's speech is to humanize the candidate. That speech didn't do it. Tiffany, on the other hand, gave a very good speech. She was warm, it was sweet, and she made clear how much she loved and admired her father. There was no real substance, but that's not the point of a speech like that.
Reading off of a teleprompter does not require a superior command of the English language. That was not Melania's problem. I'm astonished that so many people (mostly men) have convinced themselves that Melania is a sterling example of class and dignity. She's a gorgeous woman who likes to keep a low profile and would probably love to get away from this shitshow. That's not the same.
