Gaylias,

They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. I guess you must really like Alias to go so far as to take on his name as part of yours. And you post those nice little pictures like Gravis - wow, so is your name like a combination of Gravis and Alias? Nice, nice.

Thanks for your input. I know Alias is really glad that you enjoy his threads so much.

Too bad you have nothing else useful to do other than be a troll though... you obviously have nothing of use to add to the discussion. I mean hell, even Vince has something to say once in a while that is meaningful - he actually was coherent today, I am guessing the meds kicked in and he got some sleep.

Might want to work on your message though Gaylias - you kinda suck - literally.

Yeah, these are just a bunch of dumbasses being bussed in to disrupt a legitamate, open debate. The same kind of jackasses that showed up at Palin rallies hootin' and hollerin' about socialism and secret Muslims. It didn't work too well back then, either.

People who do this kind of thing can't be too bright, and probably don't really even understand the issue. They're just stupid, misinformed, and angry.

LOL! pwn3d on tv. seriously though, if you havent read it, you shouldnt vote on it. i dont care if it's 1000 pages, fucking read it. the senators and congressmen, not their staffs are the ones that were voted into office because of their views on matters their experience and other traits, not their staff's.

You mean the same kind of jackasses used and paid for by MoveOn.org, ACORN and Code Pink?

Exactly, just like the members and lackies of MoveOn.org, ACORN and Code Pink.

Well if those groups you mentioned ever disrupted a town hall meeting, then yes, but since I don't recall seeing a video of them doing that, my "jackass" comment falls squarely on all these right-wing fucknuts.

Sorry, hadn't realized it was limited to just "town hall" meetings. I guess you don't consider disrupting a Congressional hearing that actually has rules of decorum a "disrpution." Who are the fucknuts, now?

Example 1 - Code Pink

Example 2 - MoveOn.org and other affiliated organizations

Example 3 - ACORN

"Acorn protesters have disrupted Federal Reserve hearings, but mostly deploy their aggressive tactics locally. Chicago is home to one of its strongest chapters, and Acorn has burst into a closed city council meeting there. Acorn protestors in Baltimore disrupted a bankers’ dinner and sent four busloads of profanity-screaming protestors against the mayor’s home, terrifying his wife and kids. Even a Baltimore city council member who generally supports Acorn said their intimidation tactics had crossed the line."

Sorry, but the Republicans have a higher percentage of fucknut dumbasses in their constituency. A majority of them are in the Deep South, but occassionally they make their way up to Fairfax for the job market. I wish they would go back because when they talk, they sound so stupid.

The people in the Specter video are definitely dolts, but you must be looking at the videos through rose, I mean pink colored glasses. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a bigger bunch of batshit stupid and crazy morons than Code Pinkers.

FWIW, I didn't actually watch those videos, too much of a pain on my phone). But it's safe to say that most Dems aren't like Code Pinkers (whatever that is).... however, it's a pretty safe assumption that most people like the ones in that Specter video are Republicans.

So, it is safe to say then that at most gay marches where they look like this they are Democrats. Good point. (I am using an example here to support your premise of using behavior to identify voter stereotypes)

It is hardly "safe to say," unless you have an agenda. First, you aren't even making a true comparison. On one side you are saying the fringe lunatics of the Dems do not represent all Dems, then you are saying all the fringe lunatics in that video are Republicans. Likewise, all Code Pinkers are Dems. BTW, if you don't know what Code Pink is, you REALLY have NOT been paying attention for about six years.

An interesting fact:

35% of Democrats believe Bush knew about 9/11 before it happened.
28% of Republicans believe Obama was NOT born in the United States.

While both numbers are troubling for main stream Americans of any political party, it seems to me that a larger % of Dems are living in a fringe fantasy world.

And while you are associating all Republicans with a fringe minority, I am sure in your next breath that we should not associate all followers of Islam with terrorism. Right?

Rasmussen http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/current_events/bush_administration/22_believe_bush_knew_about_9_11_attacks_in_advance

Research2000

Both are fairly reputable and relied upon polling firms. Anyone can poke holes in polling methodology, but I think it is fair to say that these companies are regularly cited by news organizations. I will concede that Rasmussed tends to sland more Republican while Research2000 slants more Democratic.

While it may have been what you attempted to do, it is not actually the way you worded it. Despite what you think, not much of what you say bothers me at all. You are not the first person like this I have come across. I learned long ago that there are many stupid people in this world and I have learned to coexist with all of them, Democrat and Republican.

You actually have no idea who I voted for, or if I even voted. I am fairly certain that you do not live in my precinct. I think Palin is an idiot, was a horrible choice and hope she fades away quietly. I wish I could say the same things about Joe Biden, but he holds the job. At least they have been keeping him on a somewhat short leash.

Edwards cheated on his wife. Palin failed to keep her oath to serve as Alaska's governor for four years. That's a pretty huge difference.

i would like to point out that he concealed the fact that he cheated on his wife (which btw is breaking an oath) while Palin publicly resigned.

Oh, cheating on your wife is a shitty thing to do, don't get me wrong. His political career is basically done because of that, and that's a good thing. But, I think Palin quitting early is just downright irresponsible. It betrays the hundred of thousands of people who voted her into office. All the flubbed interviews and dumbness aside, I think her resignation will truly be the thing that kills her future in politics.

If I were one of her major political donors, or someone who volunteered time campaigning for her, or an appointee about to lose my job, I'd be pretty irate at her resignation. She's letting alot of people down, whether you hear about them or not.

excellent point. however, the investment in a political figure is superficial especially compared to the emotional investment in a marriage. i see it this way, one person is keying a parking lot full of cars and another is smashing someone's car using a 18-wheeler.

One is a belief that has some historical examples to give people enough doubt so as to believe it. False flag operations and knowing ahead of time that an enemy is going to attack, and allowing it in order to justify war has happened in the past.

The other is a whacko belief that the government is hiding Obama's true birthplace from the people in order to perpetrate, what, exactly?

I wonder if the same 28% who believe Obama is Kenyan are the ones who thought Bush was doing a great job during the previous 8 years?

Did the same poll mention how many Republicans believe that Bush had foreknowledge of the attacks? Because I would not be surprised if that number wouldn't at least be around 10 or 15%, possibly even higher.

I don't know if that's the case.

9/11 "truthers" are at least based in historical events, as opposed to the birther theory that the government is perpetuating some enormous hoax on the people in order to allow a Kenyan as a sitting president.

I think the 9/11 truthers are like the JFK assassination doubters. Yes, there are nuts mixed in with the people who just have valid and legitimate doubts. The birthers, however, are simply refusing to accept Obama's Hawaiian birth certificate because they are so deeply embedded up the neocon/extreme-right wing ass that they just cannot accept that he is our president.

In 20 or 30 years, someone like Oliver Stone will probably make a movie about 9/11 like Oliver Stone did about JFK, and there will be former FBI agents or whatever disclosing bits and pieces that support some or all of some of the truther's statements. Hell, Richard Clark already gave them mountains of information.

I'm pretty sure nobody will ever lend any credibility to the birther paranoia. I mean, what the fuck kind of conspiracy theory is this, anyway? He's not really a natural born citizen? So the plan they've hatched is so complex that they couldn't find a US born patsy to do it? There's no logic to it, the birthers are just hoping they can somehow magically turn back the clock and have McCain and Palin running the joint. They don't even seem to realize that Palin ran away from the oh so demanding job of running the least populated state when it got a little hard. She couldn't even finish out her first term. Or how McCain is getting so senile that he actually stood up in the senate chamber and announced that he's had numerous calls from constituents who wish to take advantage of the cash for clunkers program by trading in old sets of golf clubs for new ones.

There's just no reason or logic behind birthers. At least the truthers can articulate a reason WHY, the motive, and even come up with theories as to the HOW.

I'm sorry, but as nutty as both camps are, the birthers are just pathetic because it's all based on sour grapes, not a fear of government malfeasance or deception, like the truthers, which at least deserves scrutiny.

Well, that puts you in the proper camp then.

I don't remember the birthers espousing that someone doctored the newspaper - I think that came out later from someone debunking them. So while it sounds like they are just ignoring an "obvious" truth that should have dissuaded them right away - most likely the folks that are wound up never knew that pertinent fact. You are taking a result and assuming they had all the same "facts" in front of them that you do.

If you, knowing nothing else, were presented with a document purporting to be McCain's birth certificate (looks real, proper names, dates, etc) saying he was born in Brazil, and then a document saying he was born in the Canal Zone - with no other input except knowing someone named McCain exists, could you come to the conclusion that maybe he was not born in the US? Certainly. Based on the videos of folks I have seen of people in meetings getting up and shouting about it - I doubt they go much beyond that, or else they also believe they were abducted by aliens.

The 9/11 folks mostly appear to be pretty smart people - much like Vince though they are seeing shadows behind every corner.

I'm in neither camp. I can just objectively observe both conspiracies and say that one is based on real concerns that the government doesn't always do things out in the open and honestly, the other is based on some very amorphous ideas about a guy that isn't American, might be muslim, and probably should be feared because he's going to plunge America into a hundred years of evil socialism.

I would have to go with believing they were abducted by aliens.

As for the McCain birthplace, I have to say that the same evil forces at play in hiding Obama's origins were just as evil in their plans to hide McCain's un-American origins. They were playing an evil game against us, they had planned to install an illegal president no matter who won the election. Besides, McCain was a POW, and that makes him a manchurian candidate.

Oh, wait, my tin foil hat just fell off. What was I saying? The memory beam from CIA headquarters fucked with my train of thought.

Exactly. There is nothing wrong with questioning events that change the very nature of government, that are so seismic in nature like 9/11, or Pearl Harbor, or JFK's assassination. Of course it will pull all the nutjobs out of the woodwork, but the essence of that questioning is what keeps things like sitting presidents who hire "plumbers" to break into opposition campaign headquarters from remaining in office, and provides a check against unwarranted power.

Questioning a president's birthplace? I just can't imagine what benefit that sort of hopeful revisionism might accomplish.

Me either. But the media is certainly playing it up to paint ALL conservatives as nutjobs. Just like they are playing up folks being upset at Townhall meetings as some vast conspiracy. That and their new email at the Whitehouse for reporting rumors people see... If they want to do crap like that, get the DNC to use their website to do it - having the whitehouse actually come out and ask for folks to report that directly to them is... wrong.

My apologies for implying you were endorsing 9/11 folks.

This is the new politics. This shit started during the Clinton administration, but really came to a head in Bush's tenure. Remember all the "militia" stuff after Waco and Randy Weaver? Same story, different side of the partisan divide.

The idea is to trump up the fringe so that all the valid critics are lumped together with them.

There were people, like Richard Clark, who raised serious questions about the Bush admin and 9/11. Or Colin Powell about invading Iraq. So they played up the "truther movement" as a way to paint any and all criticism as nothing more than the work of nutjobs.

Birthers became part of the lexicon only a few weeks ago. I saw it first in Time, then in the Economist in only the last two or three issues. I never heard that term before then. The same forces are at work -- marginalize the opposition by painting them all as loony nutjobs with a grudge or a paranoid ideation on some event.

I am guessing the British were starting to feel the same way when they got hit with the slogan "taxation without representation". I am thinking we are seeing the milder version of a repeat performance.

The Dems appear to be intent on passing some of the most conflicted laws ever, and so far they seem to only benefit the federal government, or other countries. We the People aren't so "We" anymore.

Cap and Trade - will definitely raise energy costs on everyone, while transferring wealth (more) out of the country - and do everything they can to block the build-out of new facilities to help get the country through to when more efficient renewable energy is available. On top of that, demonize CO2 which we are taught is a natural product used by plants and trees.

Health Care (Insurance) Reform - How can you possibly insure 40Million plus people in a new health plan, lower costs, and still tell people that you don't have to change your current coverage if you like it. ALL of that and staying "revenue neutral"

Starting out with how "transparent" your new administration is going to be, then turning around and acting even more secretive in your dealing with release of information

Having Pelosi say how wonderful and "Bi-Partisan" everything is going to be under her new Congress, then turning around and excluding Republicans from almost every piece of legislation, limiting any discussion on Bills, and using legislative tricks to push Bills through for votes to allow for no real change. Add on slipping in massive spending earmarks for pet projects. Then, once the bill is passed, claim how partisan the Republicans are acting.......

Sure - and they wonder why people are angry.
