the problem i have with NEWS online is:

1) they all seem to use the same very bad web page editor software
they sites are all very slow to load

2) they often no longer care about the news rules of the old days:
reporter has name on article, can back up facts, can be contacted
if anyone doubts it. journalism

3) unbiased? no the news agencies now are often purchased by
a power group for the purpose of adding a bias. they dont
give a damn they are just bloggers.

What Makes a Reuters Journalist?

There are many different types of journalism practised in Reuters, across text, television, picture services and online. No one definition of our craft applies to them all. What must unite us is honesty and integrity. We often face difficult choices in the pursuit of better stories and superior images. In such situations there are several “right” answers and the rules we use run out. We can, however, guard against damage to our reputation through a shared understanding of the fundamental principles that govern our work.

The 10 Absolutes of Reuters Journalism

Always hold accuracy sacrosanct
Always correct an error openly
Always strive for balance and freedom from bias
Always reveal a conflict of interest to a manager
Always respect privileged information
Always protect their sources from the authorities
Always guard against putting their opinion in a news story
Never fabricate or plagiarise
Never alter a still or moving image beyond the requirements of normal image enhancement
Never pay for a story and never accept a bribe

This Section is divided into four categories:

Accuracy
Independence
Freedom from bias
Integrity

Seek Truth and
Report It

Ethical journalism should be accurate and fair. Journalists should be honest and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information.

Journalists should:

– Take responsibility for the accuracy of their work. Verify information before releasing it. Use original sources whenever possible.

– Remember that neither speed nor format excuses inaccuracy.

– Provide context. Take special care not to misrepresent or oversimplify in promoting, previewing or summarizing a story.

– Gather, update and correct information throughout the life of a news story.

– Be cautious when making promises, but keep the promises they make.

– Identify sources clearly. The public is entitled to as much information as possible to judge the reliability and motivations of sources.

– Consider sources’ motives before promising anonymity. Reserve anonymity for sources who may face danger, retribution or other harm, and have information that cannot be obtained elsewhere. Explain why anonymity was granted.

– Diligently seek subjects of news coverage to allow them to respond to criticism or allegations of wrongdoing.

– Avoid undercover or other surreptitious methods of gathering information unless traditional, open methods will not yield information vital to the public.

– Be vigilant and courageous about holding those with power accountable. Give voice to the voiceless.

– Support the open and civil exchange of views, even views they find repugnant.

– Recognize a special obligation to serve as watchdogs over public affairs and government. Seek to ensure that the public’s business is conducted in the open, and that public records are open to all.

– Provide access to source material when it is relevant and appropriate.

– Boldly tell the story of the diversity and magnitude of the human experience. Seek sources whose voices we seldom hear.

– Avoid stereotyping. Journalists should examine the ways their values and experiences may shape their reporting.

– Label advocacy and commentary.

– Never deliberately distort facts or context, including visual information. Clearly label illustrations and re-enactments.

– Never plagiarize. Always attribute.

Minimize Harm

Ethical journalism treats sources, subjects, colleagues and members of the public as human beings deserving of respect.

Journalists should:

– Balance the public’s need for information against potential harm or discomfort. Pursuit of the news is not a license for arrogance or undue intrusiveness.

– Show compassion for those who may be affected by news coverage. Use heightened sensitivity when dealing with juveniles, victims of sex crimes, and sources or subjects who are inexperienced or unable to give consent. Consider cultural differences in approach and treatment.

– Recognize that legal access to information differs from an ethical justification to publish or broadcast.

– Realize that private people have a greater right to control information about themselves than public figures and others who seek power, influence or attention. Weigh the consequences of publishing or broadcasting personal information.

– Avoid pandering to lurid curiosity, even if others do.

– Balance a suspect’s right to a fair trial with the public’s right to know. Consider the implications of identifying criminal suspects before they face legal charges.

– Consider the long-term implications of the extended reach and permanence of publication. Provide updated and more complete information as appropriate.

Act Independently

The highest and primary obligation of ethical journalism is to serve the public.

Journalists should:

– Avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived. Disclose unavoidable conflicts.

– Refuse gifts, favors, fees, free travel and special treatment, and avoid political and other outside activities that may compromise integrity or impartiality, or may damage credibility.

– Be wary of sources offering information for favors or money; do not pay for access to news. Identify content provided by outside sources, whether paid or not.

– Deny favored treatment to advertisers, donors or any other special interests, and resist internal and external pressure to influence coverage.

– Distinguish news from advertising and shun hybrids that blur the lines between the two. Prominently label sponsored content.

Be Accountable and Transparent

Ethical journalism means taking responsibility for one’s work and explaining one’s decisions to the public.

Journalists should:

– Explain ethical choices and processes to audiences. Encourage a civil dialogue with the public about journalistic practices, coverage and news content.

– Respond quickly to questions about accuracy, clarity and fairness.

– Acknowledge mistakes and correct them promptly and prominently. Explain corrections and clarifications carefully and clearly.

– Expose unethical conduct in journalism, including within their organizations.

– Abide by the same high standards they expect of others.

The SPJ Code of Ethics is a statement of abiding principles supported by additional explanations and position papers that address changing journalistic practices. It is not a set of rules, rather a guide that encourages all who engage in journalism to take responsibility for the information they provide, regardless of medium. The code should be read as a whole; individual principles should not be taken out of context. It is not, nor can it be under the First Amendment, legally enforceable.

obviously one of the two parties above (reuters or since 1909, the society of proffesional journalists)

no one needs slow websites laden with opinions and reporters who are forbidden to "look into certain stories"

and that story is: MONEY - like obama.gov printing 9x of bush jr or Reagan, abuse of power by police and courts and counties (jailing people before a trail when by 1980's laws the actions were not criminal), etc. MONEY - a neo government class protecting it's pay by using weapons - which say K-Mart is not allowed to do.

"a willing buyer a willing seller" is the law in the USA last time i checked

(it's true "someone has to do the work private business evades doing", like building roads and insuring everyone has water, or even managing satellite traffic in space)

what's not true is that it's possible to have democracy if these people decide their own pay, their own jobs, and are also armed

the constitution is clear about this being a situation that is absolutely illegal

i wont put up with it

as to being un-biased

today you have a better chance of obtaining "both sides of a story" by watching comical `un-news' than you do news. news today letigiously gives only the government's side of any story. and even they don't mention issues about government taking the roll of counterfeiter in chief - poeople fired because of who they politically supported - politicians using human trafficing to stay in power - etc

NEWS websites are all using some horrifically bad web page maker. they must be using Microsoft or something hideous

the pages load slowly and apparently are not proxied* and or the news agencies have very slow internet connections

the text does not display before the images which required since =HTML version 1 (or text doesn't display at all in some web browsers), the images load in the wrong order, the ads sometimes hack the page cover text, buttons often do not work, often the page keeps reloading itself though the content hasn't changed). obviously content is geared to force web browser upgrade and even computer brand purchase choice. i could write the day's news quicker than i can browse a days news on these sites.

they all seem to use the same crap HTML editor/web server. i avoid most any news site for that reason.

---------------
* versison COX cable or who proxy certain high volume sites (downloading them when they change, perhaps daily) so pages load quickly off local servers rather than each user having to wait for transmission over the internet from the single source

proxying is something like "automated unschedule broadcasting"

broadcasting copies one source to many users at a particular time of day - and because if everyone did it the telephone companies could not handle the bandwidth - broadcasting requires registration and a fee

(if you all didn't know, you can broadcast world wide with an iPhone IF you register and pay. the only difference is one bit changed on your IP packets)

and as to FCC and obama.gov - some ISP have been known to use "proxying" to speed up some sites but actually penalize others - and even use proxying to hack/alter certain site's content and HIDE certain sites. for instance if Microsoft were in danger of loosing all sales to linux - if Microsoft owned a large share of cOX (turns out they DO) they might hide certain linux sites and shut down email from linux distributors through their supposed internet connection which is actually a carefully hacked LAN connection they control top down

some ISP have been caught doing it

be aware ISP can and DO alter web pages or hide parts of the web, if they have a monitary interest or if they are run by a crime group

it used to be once you registered a .com name, say "linux.org", you kept it even if you stopped paying - and it was useful - UNLESS and UNTIL someone else registered the same name.

free organizations used this fact "wisely" (being unpaid) to pay 1x only and rely on the fact that since they were a contribution organization no one would "attack them and use the same name"

then ... microsoft and others began registering these and redirecting traffic to pages that mocked the free contribution sites

then ... you saw google redirect or your ISP redirect you to a phony "automatically made full of ads page" or "this name is free to register" page

---------------------------
point: once again this was done by "big evil business" to control and attack competition and demand continual registration. i'm telling you it was free and was free for a reason - they have no cost keeping expired names.

the ISP companies are specializing in extortion and signal blockers - radio wave jammers, these days

It's finally turning. And we can thank Trump for calling it like it is and trying to get us back some sense of normalcy. When I was a kid the news was really news. Now it's just nigger propaganda. Every day they work their asses off to find something positive a nigger did. Believe me. It's tough. When they can't find that, they wheel out some nigger that's been in jail for twenty years "wrongly convicted by a white jury". What they never tell you is that this nigger had a lengthy record before and many of them immediately commit a crime when released. So sure, that nigger may not have raped THAT woman, but he did a bunch of other shit.

What all of you don't know is that you can still read the WaPO if you avoid the "Opinion" and stick to the local section.

I can read the site for weather updates, road construction, and whatever else is going on around here without hearing some of the crap you guys are saying. If you had your own grimy hands on the site, maybe you would make the site super laggy and full of useless crap anyway.

The Washington Times is owned the moonies.

"Founded in 1982 by Unification Church leader Sun Myung Moon, the Times was owned by News World Communications, an international media conglomerate associated with the church until 2010, in which Moon and a group of former executives purchased the paper. It is currently owned by diversified conglomerate Operations Holdings.[4]"

The Times never sold that many ink copies. Who would pay real money for an online edition?
