Trump's statement was released minutes after Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver said that the Vermont senator was "prepared to accept" a proposal from one of two networks to host the unorthodox debate between Trump and Sanders, who badly trails Hillary Clinton in the delegate count.

Weaver suggested in his statement that both network offers included "a major contribution to charity."

The networks would have LOVED to host (and pay for) this debate. Trump's staff clearly talked some sense into him; Sanders would savage him. Face it - Trump is a coward.

refusing "optional" debates isn't new in politics at all it's been excercised in recent past electoral processes - and also used as a tool by one side to insist the other side refuses as well. as well if the debate is run by democrats he should NOT go since the debate master would fuck over trump which would make him look bad (for those of you who studied debate you might know how that is done and why last electoral process there were complaints filed the debate master threw someone's game intently)

You know that Trump pulled out of one of the Republican debates for the same reason right? The difference is that (a) he knows how much money they make off of these things after doing his TV show and pay-per-view deals and (b) he's not desperate for publicity like Bernie and he doesn't have to so there's no reason for him to let them make it off of him.

When Trump started talking about whatever network hosted the debate having to contribute $10-15 million to charity to get him to participate, I knew he wasn't serious.

He chose a number he knew they would never meet, because it would far exceed the amount of advertising revenue they would generate.

Trump knows his face makes money for news organizations, which is why they've given him the equivalent of $2 billion+ worth of free publicity.
