If she gains weight or scars or starts to show signs of aging, she's done. Her looks are the ONLY thing keeping this boat afloat. Denying that is denying reality.

Well, if you're a Democrat, you have to love the (failure) theatre.

If you're an Independant, you have to love the 2 main parties lambasting/defending such a ridiculous candidate, driving voters to your point of view from both sides.

And if you're a Republican, well, at least you have something to fight about internally.

See? Silver linings all around!

Palin/Hannity in 2012!!!!!!!!!!

The party that once ran on a platform based mostly on accusing the opponent candidate of "cutting and running" is going to even consider the governor who cut and ran because of a few harrassment ethics accusations?

We better be at 100% peace with no looming threats if she's going to have any hopes of withstanding the accusations of being the only candidate who actually DID CUT AND RUN when the going got tough.

In all fairness to the republican party, just because she's raising funds doesn't mean the party is going to back her. I'm sure there's a UFO nut raising funds to run on the friends of zeta reticuli party ticket, too.

Thursty, I'll admit to not reading your whole post, but are you saying that there's no place for hypocrisy in politics?

Im just askin.....

It's not just the republican party... Politics as we know it is flawed. Everyone is too scared.

There's obviously way too much room for hypocrisy in politics.

In fact, it appears to be a prerequisite.

the republican party needs to totally reinvent itself. I lean more towards the republicans on alot of issues, but i cant take this bullshit of them being the authorities on morality. They need to drop the religion from their politics and fix their fucking party.

It's the two parties. They both sold out to special interests. They put up this facade of being "left" or "right" and "liberal" or "conservative", but they all sold out to corporate money years ago.

If we could do away with gerrymandered districts and just create voting districts on a straight up grid system or something, and then eliminate all corporate contributions to candidates (impossible, I know) maybe it would break this cycle of political and economic decline.

Pipe dreams are so nice.

That has been my biggest turn-off about the republican party for quite a while. I've voted Republican every election until I just couldn't vote any more. It was all that religious pomposity and righteousness, and of course lying to us about Iraq, that finally turned me off completely.

And where in their handbook does it illustrate the "evil" of stem-cell research? Human cloning? What the fuck are they afraid of?

That crap is due to their playing to the christian fundamentalist base.

Stem-cell research uses embryonic stem cells, and embryos are God's little creations. It ties in with the abortion issue.

Human cloning is a little trickier to tie down. I guess it has to do with the mythology that God created life, and only God can create life.

Unfortunately, alot of the protestan religions that spawn fundamentalist thinking eschew science, so they can't fathom the idea that God created Man in His own image, and if Man can achieve scientific knowledge, it is because it is in God's image that He was created. If we can clone a human, it's because God created us and imparted the intellectual capacity to eventually do so.

I mean, what's that old elementary school aged riddle? "If God is all powerful, could he create a boulder that even he couldn't lift?" -- I God didn't want us to eventually clone humans, why would he give us the mental capacity to eventually do so?

If you're a fundamentalist, these thoughts are too complex to deal with. It's better to just imagine a whale that swallowed Jonah, and an Ark that Noah built, and a bush that burned, and the parting of the red sea.

What's funny, is that human cloning is considered ethically bad. If religion plays such a small part in everyone's life, what is wrong with cloning a human? Same thing with stem-cells - assuming a secular society that embraces abortion as a means of reproductive control (which it is), then ethically there should be no problem using stem cells since we are just awash with aborted fetuses.

Again - more people are religious than folks want to admit, and most of them don't like it when you start trying to play God. Even the non-fundamentalist Christian or Deist religions.

So they would rather just let all the tissue go to waste? They think that by banning stem-cell research abortions will stop? They wouldn't even have to worry about it if cloning were acceptable. We could just clone the cells and no little creations would have to be destroyed for it...

These people have a very convoluted thought process.

To them, if you allow stem cell research, you encourage abortions. It will only legitamize abortions, it will make abortions legal and it will defy God's Will.

(abortions are legal, but don't remind them of that little fact.)

God acts in mysterious ways. You do believe in the sanctity of life, don't you? God created man in his own image. We should never question God's will. We are not God. ad nauseum.

The real fear is that aborted babies would become a commodity, thus driving women to get pregnant just to have an abortion to sell the baby for stem cells. Get it?

Sure, plenty of aborted fetuses today, but if stem cell demand grows as potential treatments are developed, that would be a bad way for all this to go ...

Really?

I mean, seriously, REALLY???

Women will get pregnant just to sell the aborted fetus?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

That just doesn't make sense.

Isn't there also the logic that women (especially black women) get pregnant in order to get more money from the government?

None of that shit makes sense. Cause and effect are being convoluted for a political agenda.

I mean, let's not forget that stem cells are replicatable, and can be grown and made into just about any human tissue, organ or whatever. It would never become a "commodity" that women would be willing to endure an abortion over for a few bucks. The women that, today, go through the emotional turmoil to decide to have an abortion will provide more than is needed. No woman is going to go through the emotional toil and turmoil just to make a few bucks.

This isn't like sperm donation. Many guys are more than eager to jerk off into a plastic cup for a few bucks, because that has two benefits, cash and getting off. But women do not view a germinated egg as "getting off" or as a way to get some cash. They all know that is their child in zygote or embryonic form.

There are women that DO get pregnant to get more money from the government. A woman I knew a few years back, her sister was doing just that. She had 3 kids from 3 different fathers, and was pregnant with a 4th (from one of the original 3). Then she took in her niece (who was under 15 and also pregnant) so she could get even more money in payments. The woman lived in a shithole but drove a Cadillac.

Yeah, "The Welfare Queen". We all heard that story back in the 80's.

Right now, women have to pay to get abortions. If stem cells turn out to be "the way" to some incredible medical breakthrough, then there is a great likelihood they would turn that around and pay them to have abortions.

That is the religious/ethical issue behind why they are so against using stem cells from embryos.

As I pointed out though in the assisted suicide thread - in a secular society, that does not base many of its laws or ethics from religion, why would it matter? Assuming the push lately to remove religion from all decisions. Abortion, much like assisted (or just) suicide strictures come from religious teachings and beliefs - not some secular belief that says you should just live - because.

There should be a rule that sets a limit for how many different baby-daddies a woman can have.

After three baby daddies tear out the bitch's ovaries!

They're already fighting evolution. It won't be long until they fight medicine, and space research, and molecular science and nanotechnology.

If you use logic and reason to form your own opinions, you already know this to be true. Unfortunately there are a lot of people in this country who are only a hair's width away from strapping a bomb to their chest to kill an abortion doctor.

This woman existed, and was NOT a figment. As a matter of fact (and Vince jumped my shit on this the last time I posted this) the woman I knew was trying to get her daughter back from the sister (the 14yr old) and the judge told her "you should just quit your job and go on welfare so you can stay home to take care of your family". I am not making this shit up - it was about 20 yrs ago.

20 years ago, you could also buy a cup of coffee for 75 cents. Or a pack of cigarettes for $1.50.

Okay, maybe the smokes would have cost $2.50. But 30 years ago, you could buy cigarettes for 90 cents.

The whole issue of women selling their aborted fetus's could eventually be a reality i guess, it is a stretch. However, if we were allowed to do uncontrolled research on stem cells we would probably have a solution that did not involve fetus's at all. I thought i head something recently about them being able to extract stem cells from ambilical chords (sure i spelled that wrong). I dont get the whole sanctamony of life thing with the religious people. They are pro war, pro gun, pro death penalty, but using stem cells from already aborted fetus's is where they draw the line. If abortion were illegal i would see the argument, but these stem cells are just going to be wasted if not used

Many sage points in above thread. What saddens me is that as a nation we seem to have gone backwards in our basic beliefs, while Europe and Asia, except for some religions that want to stay in the 15th Century, have progressed and changed with the times. We still have 6 percent of the population believing that the moon walk was staged, some larger percentage believing the world was created 6,000 years ago (include Palin as a Pentacostal), etc., etc. How can people like Palin make fact-based decisions with this baggage? And, yes, both political parties are made up of this ilk--the average American.

If Sarah Palin is the GOP's best hope for 2012, then I quote Col. Trautman from the movie First Blood - "It's over Johnny, it's OVER!".

I use to be a Republican too until they started this religious faction BS.

Now it is if every freak religion is running the party. I've also been turned off by the alliances with the monster churches where we eventually learn the church leader is living an extravagant life style or has been cheating his wife with prostitutes.

Certainly turned off by Rush Limbaugh and his claim that he was the only person who could save the party. Sarah Palin was another disaster.

Well, that article states that she is leading him in fundraising, and is a potential 2012 candidate, but her PAC was not established to raise money for the 2012 race. SarahPAC was established for the purpose of building America's future, supporting fresh ideas and candidates who share our vision for reform and innovation., according to its website. Show me an article that says Palin is raising money for a 2012 presidential run.

SarahPAC is a testing ground by the GOP to see how much interest(money) Palin has. The SarahPAC can then roll the money into a presidential campaign fund.
