VETERANS! Nice to know who our "friends" are.
From today's Black Velvet Bruce Li blog:

When the Department of Homeland Security published that wonderful report entitled “Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” about how returning veterans are potential terrorists, and that anyone who thinks that Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution of the United States is actually meaningful are “extremists”, a few folks out there wondered just how DHS could come to such outrageous conclusions. One blogger out there decided it was worth submitting a FOIA request to learn the basis by which the Obama Administration made these determinations, and the answers aren’t terribly surprising, although they’re pretty outrageous in themselves.
Here’s part of the exchange between DHS and this blogger:
1. With respect to “(U//FOUO) DHS?I&A notes that prominent civil rights organizations have observed an increase in anti-Hispanic crimes over the past five years,” found on page 5 of 9 of the document, you requested the following:
** Names of the cited “prominent civil rights organizations,” as well as any references used to create the document or this citation within the document…
A search within the Office of Intelligence and Analysis (OI&A) for records that would be responsive to your request produced a total of 127 pages, all of which are publicly avaliable. Pursuant to 5 U.S.C. ss552(a)(1) and (a)(2), DHS need not make available under the FOIA records that are published elsewhere. As the responsive documents are publicly available and you specifically requested “website links,” we have not enclosed hard copies with this response.
With respect to Item 1, the following website links are provided:

Now isn’t that just peachy. The SPLC is setting policy to the Obama Administration. This is the same crackpot shakedown operation that preys on rich, paranoid old liberals, and was condemned by the Northern Virginia Journal, saying
“If you don’t particularly want your charitable donations to go towards somebody’s mortgage or country club dues, give your hard-earned dollars to a real charity, not a bunch of slick, parasitic hucksters who live high on the hog by raising money on behalf of needy people who never see a dime of it.”
The Better Business Bureau slammed these folks for spending 89% of their income on administration and fundraising, and their reporting is so consistently littered with false information that they’ve even tried to publish a report first, and afterwards call to get the facts. This racial huckstering version of ACORN is nothing more that a grievance-mongering fundraising operation, and now the Obama administration is taking policy direction from them, albeit at a terrible political price.
This is hardly surprising, but as it is increasingly becoming clear, Obama is handing the levers of federal power to leftist extremists bent on remaking America into something the founding fathers would seriously disapprove of. This isn’t the change so many voted for, unless those voters were mistaking Barack Obama for Daniel Ortega. At this point, I can understand such confusion, unfortunately.
