My husband and I live in a small house on a small lot in Vienna. We don't have children, but love kids. Our problem is our next-door neighbors, whose two elementary school-age boys have limited supervision. I think the term is "free range". They're always in our yard digging and leaving their toys around. They frequently come over asking for candy, and the other day while my husband was working from home, he heard someone trying to open the door and pushing the keypad for entry. When he went to the door he found it was one of the boys, of course. I have tried asking them nicely to retrieve their toys, etc., but I'm getting really frustrated and afraid I'm going to lose my patience soon and blow. I've even tried politely bringing this up with the parents, but to no avail. What can we do?

We have the same problem here in Ashburn. We finally had to erect a 6 foot fence around our house, around the property line. Anything of theirs found thrown inside of the fence gets trashed. Any trash found thrown inside our fence gets returned to their yard. The family doing it apparently is participating in the "underground railroad for "immigrant baby importations", so the problem continues as the large groups of kids keep getting get replaced as the older ones "grow and go."

I wouldn't set any booby traps altho that would probably put a stop to the trespassing. If one of the brown snowflakes gets injured you will find yourself in a courtroom and maybe even a jail cell.

"Home and Garden" authors are turning in their grave at people who want award for what they hired illegal laborers to do using their gov paychecks no less. That's automatic dis-qualification from entry - or at least had been. I used to talk to a winner of one of the many issues. they had people who tried to buy a nice yard and win entries: some who even took the prize before having it revoked after it was discovered they took no party in making the home beautiful.

use a neighborhood meeting, mediator, church, or committee

a minor matter like this is exactly the waste of court taxpayer money that should not be paid for by the taxpayer

A few well placed rusty nails should do the trick. Rusty because they are harder to spot and will most likely cause an infection. Little fuckers may even loose a foot.
