Sports Authority To Be Liquidated

960x0.jpg?fit=scale

It could be time to say goodbye to Sports Authority . The sporting goods retailer has chosen to sell off its assets, ending a quest to reorganize under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Sports Authority notified the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Del., earlier this week that the company would not be able to reorganize and would pursue a sale instead.

Most of the company’s assets will go up for auction May 16. While buyers could emerge who would keep the doors open in at least some locations, it’s possible that all 450 stores could be liquidated.

Sports Authority filed for Chapter 11 in March, saying at the time it would close 140 stores and two distribution centers.

But the retailer is saddled with more than $1.1 billion in debt and won’t be able to reorganize.

Sporting goods brands have been increasingly under pressure and consolidation within this category will likely increase. There is also talk that Bass Pro Shops is interested in buying Cabela’s.

Sports Authority hasn’t updated its website to reflect this news, but consumers can expect sales and discounts to accelerate.

let's be honest: sport authority of China

all of the products were made in China werent they ?

Sears used to be "an importer" yet in the 1980's most of their products were made in USA - especially sports products

no one even heard of sweat shop shoes competing against Nike until sometime in the 1990's

You mean more Hope & Change, Green Shoots, Shovel Ready Projects and Summers of Recovery?

More on the national credit card for a future calamity?

We can just borrow against Social Security. If we need that shit in the future, we will just create another Social Security program.

Wut?

Dick's and REI always are more expensive than Sports Authority. And they always had 20-25% off coupons that you could use.

No companies went out of business when Bush was president.

In any case, Sports Authority is not going out of business due to any presidential policy.

They're going out of business because the average American, (the OP probably being a case in point), is a lazy fatass who never exercises and has no use for exercise clothes or equipment.

Gerry Manilow that was very rude to interject yourself into this thread.

I think ubcdr was actually being sarcastic as we all know some companies went out of business while Bush was president.

Gerry Manilow.

They occupy spaces as big as a Walmart but only cater to a single market segment. And they have competition.

That's a tough business model for the 21st century.

Right just 300 banks, Airlines, FORD, Chrysler, GM... Just to name a few.

Good thing Bush used American taxpayer dollars, TARP, to rescue all the failing businesses under his watch.

The Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) is a program of the United States government to purchase assets and equity from financial institutions to strengthen its financial sector that was signed into law by U.S. President George W. Bush on October 3, 2008. It was a component of the government's measures in 2008 to address the subprime mortgage crisis.

Yes, the President is personally responsible for the financial viability of every single listed company in the US, no matter how poorly managed.

You've had two guys cycle through with ten times more power than Obama will ever have to create jobs. John Boner, he got driven out by his own rat infested chaotic shitfest of a party, and Paul Ryan who is now at loggerheads with the party's presumptive nominee.

Rather than your speakers legislating it seems as though they are constantly fighting civil wars instead.

Oh and the guy that was your Speaker before them has turned out to be a pedophile and has gone to jail for raping children when he was a high school coach.
