Yeah, I guess government should be the only entity to use technology to their advantage. Turnabout is fair play.

If she did, the centipedes can have fun building sand castles. It's not like a penis is going to interrupt their fun anytime soon.

In principle, is this any different than carrying around a paper map with the same information?

This chick's an idiot.

Strange, but she's a complete 180 from the guy she replaced under Tony Williams.

FWIW, the software vendor's website has a pretty cool map feature showing the locations of speed traps, red light cameras, etc.

"Lanier said the technology is a "cowardly tactic" and "people who overly rely on those and break the law anyway are going to get caught" in one way or another."

Fine, unplug your cameras and we'll turn off the app. We wouldn't want DC police using automation or machines to write anonymous tickets. Issuing tickets to red light runners and speeders without them being pulled over by an officer is a little cowardly, no?

I didn't notice any iPhone software at the site, just GPS units.
I need to find the one for iPhone, this is great!

Well since it is also illegal to use a cellphone while driving in DC, if the fucking DC cops were doing their job, this wouldn't be an issue at all.

As long as you are hands free, you are ok. Cops can't do shit if you are hands free and this app can probably run hands free.

From the FAQ:

"We are currently developing iPhone and handset versions of PhantomALERT slated for Q3 release, look for press announcements on timing and availability."

It isn't illegal to use a cellphone in DC. You can't talk on one without a headset, and you can't handle it for texting and such, but there is no law against setting the phone on your dashboard and looking at it to see the display of an app like this, any more than it would be to use it for directions/GPS.
