Reverse Racism
Date: July 16, 2009 09:36AM

Regardless of what you think of Sotomayor's ruling on Ricci, can we all agree that there is no such thing as a "reverse racist?" You are either a racist, or you aren't.

Here is a definition of racism...

rac⋅ism
/ˈreɪsɪzəm/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [rey-siz-uhm] Show IPA
Use racism in a Sentence
–noun
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

So technically speaking, when you call someone a "reverse racist," you are saying that they are the opposite of a racist...or that they are tolerant...and you sound like you are a fucking idiot.

I feel the same way about "hate" crimes.
If someone murders someone because of their race or nationality, it's no different than murdering someone for money or any other reason, they'll be just as dead.
If the penalty for murder is life in prison or the death sentence, there is no way to increase the sentence because the murderer hated the victims race.

Hate crime is all just a PR move to make people affected by racial crime feel better and to falsely believe that the perpetrator will be punished more severely.

Crime is crime, doesn't matter why.

I believe the issue with the hate crime designation is to elevate certain murder cases to a Federal level because they violate a person's civil rights. I think there is concern that a local jury may be biased against a victim who was gay or of a different race or ethnicity or religion. But, yes, the term "hate crime" is too broad a term and the application in certain circumstances, such as speech, could be unconstitutional.

Another one that drives me nuts is/was Fox's use of "homicide bomber." Any bombing that kills people is a fucking homicide. That would make the Unibomber a "homicide bomber." And, seriously, what the fuck is so special about someone blowing themselves up during a bombing that you can't refer to them in the technical sense as a "suicide bomber?" Is that somehow giving the terrorist some sort of cosmic brownie points?

Someone attempting to build up, celebrate, or elevate a minority is not racism. Someone building up a majority over a minority is racism. Minorities have every right, through words and actions, to elevate a stature that has been held down for generations. Stupid White people just don't get this.

Well, half the people on this forum still think I'm black, so I feel qualified to agree.

Any violent crime is a hate crime. If three white guys beat a black guy to death, it shouldn't be worse than three back guys beating a white guy to death. It's equally horrible.

I also think inmates spend too much time on death row, and far too many are imprisoned for life, wasting tax dollars. Euthanasia can be a good thing.

I don't disagree. I'm just giving you my take on why the term was created and the reasons for it being pursued at a Federal level (most murders are prosecuted at the state level). I think the term gained currency after the Matthew Shepard murder which was more than two guys trying to rob another guy. The reason why Shepard was murdered was because he was gay.

It costs more in legal fees to execute an inmate than it does to imprison an inmate for life. Because people have the right to due process, there isn't much that can be done to change that fact. If you could do away with any chance of parole or early release, I personally think life in prison is sufficient.

Yes, or drawing and quartering. Because, you know, there was no crime in the Middle Ages because of it.

Whatever happened to equality? Having different sets of rules for different people is unfair and definitely NOT promoting equality.

"Equality" has nothing to do with celebrating or promoting a race, (minority) by that minority. We don't have different rules for different people; the Italian Americans celebebrate and promote,so do the Greeks,Irish, and Scottish; what here don't you understand, here?

What I don't understand is how you can say SOME people (Minorities) have the right to build up and others (Majority) don't... Then say it has nothing to do with equality. Shouldn't ALL people have the right to build up regardless of their ethnic background?

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding what you have written...

OK, let me give you an example; The Miss America Pageant. If they decided to have a Miss White America Pageant, and exclude minorities, that would be racist (Majority excluding minorities). However, we do have a Miss Black America Pageant as well as a Miss Italian American Pageant (and others). Those two pageants exclude a large swath of people, but that is not “racist” because they are celebrating and competing, as a minority, among themselves. For Jamie Fox to say “Michael Jackson was a great Black American,” and we “shared him with the world,” is not racist; he is celebrating one of his own, for the Black community. For Sotomayor to say she is a “wise Latina,” and that she can make better decision than “white Men,” is not racist because she said it to an audience of minorities, who, for the most part, are not part of the “establishment” yet, but were working to elevate their status in society. The audience also, for the most part has different life experiences, and a few more difficulties, than the average White male.

I believe she made the remark in reference to Brown V The Board of Education, saying that nine white males made a decision about a racial issue and that "a wise Latina" would have been better prepared in that situation because of her life experience.

Wow. That's some convoluted thinking right there.

And you don't see the hypocrisy there? It's a double standard and one that continues the division between the races. It is the opposite of promoting equality.

I say either let every race have a Miss (Your race here) Pageant... Or don't let any of them do it...

Yeah sorry, you are talking about two issues here. One is being a minority, and the other is being racist. You should not have DISCRIMINATION based on being in the minority or of a different race or gender or sexual preference or age (etc), but it doesn't matter if you are in the minority or not - if you exclude other groups because of their race you are a racist, pure and simple. The only reason some of us call it reverse racism is that the minorities seem to have been given a pass on using it freely against white people. While DISCRIMINATION may be a form of racism, it goes in both directions.
