Across The Universe

Has anyone here seen and understand this movie? I thought some of the Beatles tunes, particularly "All My Loving" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" were performed uniquely and quite well. But I don't quite understand the poignancy behind the Beatles songs or the larger meaning of the movie. Anyone who has seen the entire movie (I have not) care to offer some insight and enlighten me? Thanks.

I saw it out of curiousity. The Bono scenes were interesting. Mostly it seemed to piggyback off of ABBAs success with Mamma Mia. The Beatles, unlike the Who, never meant for their music to be turned into a musical. Eddie Izzard's scene was also pretty good. All in all, it was too long with a contrived story.

Movies like this are usually self-indulgent clap-trap developed by some producer and/or director with an "Artistic Director" background who uses a defense of "pseudo-intellectualism" to disguise the fact that what they produced was actually a steaming pile of shit.

Fuck no. When I saw the preview/trailer at another movie, looked at my son and said "that's going to be a waste of time and money". And while I still haven't seen it, I'm quite sure my initial assessment stands valid.

I loved the movie. I didn't really understand it much at first either. I know there's a bunch if acid trips and stuff. It's just showing the time period of the revolution and the Vietnam war. Sadie is supposed to be Janis Joplin, and Toju is supposed to be Hendrix. And you know the rest :]
