MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- Detectives are now investigating a death as a murder after human remains and bones were found in a wooded area of Manassas back in January.
The human remains were found in the 8000 block of Barrett Dr. in Manassas on January 18, Prince William County police said. Authorities confirmed that the remains were in fact human and have now decided to investigate this incident as a murder.
Police said the exact cause of death is still pending. Detectives are still waiting on confirmation on the victim's identity.
Authorities do say the victim appears to be a man.
The investigation remains ongoing. No suspects have been identified or arrested in connection with the incident.
This is Prince William County's first homicide in 2016.
