I once asked Secretary of State Clinton for a dance, but she turned me down for Janet Reno. That was probably the one opportunity I had to dance with the devil in the pale moon light.

The devil is a male, not a female. Remember, young fundies, the bible hates the wimmenz and would never give them positions of power.

The Devil is a combination of denizens (Lucifer, Beelzebub, etc)in the bible as a result of the Hellenization of Judaism (IMO). The new testament makes him the big bad, as a result of the influence of Zoroastrianism (mainly) several centuries before. Prior to that, Satan was "The Accuser", or basically the Angel that was responsible for testing God's subjects. He wasn't against God or 'Evil' per say. He was essentially a literary device meant to allow the authors of Job a way to explain the problem of evil. The trouble was that Job had multiple authors and ends in an incoherent mess that amounts to 'because god says so'.
Interesting. How do fundamentalists explain the "devil" and the "power" he has? It seems like if there were no place for him, the omnipotent God would make him vanish... or not have created him at all.

You can not know good or "the light" If you did not know evil or "that which is against the light.
Satan (hebrew) = "that which opposes or, in opposition to,
Lucifer the light bringer.
Hitler was evil but God loved his soul and wished not for him to perish. But, there is freewill

Wow, all this deep theological discussion from a thread based on a quote from Batman. Bravo. I bet they will recognize each of you at the next convention:

you should know by now, only one of the clinton brothers dance.
We missed you Alias (okay, maybe only I missed you). Did you have a great time? That picture is amazing even though I know the quality isn't that great. It must be something to see. I loved your Mephisto picture too ;) ... just can't escape him can you?

the devil/Lucifer was an arch angel who loved G*d more than anything else...when God made man he instructed the angels to watch for and protect them. Lucifer wasn't buying he wanted to watch out for no one except for G*d. Hence his refusals and the war that followed. Of any creature thta ever existed Lucifer was and is G*d's number one fan.
As for the bible hating women alot of the original old testament is written so sexes are female or neutral, even when referring to G*d it was the translators who hated women not the original story tellers

Have you been getting your religious information from the movie "The Prophecy"?
Not that I blame you. I believe anything with Christopher Walken in it more readily than one of those TV ministers.
