which gps to get

Anyone have a rec on which GPS to get these days? Don't want to pay any fees and have North American maps built in. Screen must be easy to read (I wear reading glasses) and shouldn't cost a ton (less then $200).

TIA

get a garmin gps unit, they are the best so far. which one is dependent on how much money you are willing to spend.

Bought a cheap-o Garmin Nuvi 200 series. $79 and it works fine.

I went cheap and bought a Tom Tom a cupla years back--works fine, but I wish the screen was bigger.

Advice: buy the biggest screen you can for the money you want to spend-- the rest of the functionality is probably about the same. That touchscreen can be a bitch when you're trying to drive at the same time.

Recently got a Navigon 7100. One of the things that attracted me to that one was the FREE traffic info. With most other units, that costs money. Navigon does full map updates 4 times a year, although you have to pay for that. But IIRC, it's about 60 bucks for 3 years.

I think Rand McNally makes a nice one.

I would go with a wide screen garmin.

The TRAFFIC function is a good one, especially around here. My POS GPS doesn't have that of course, but my next car will. Invaluable. Listening to the GPS and WTOP at the same time is what I imagine the voices in Spunky's head to be like.

Garmin and TomTom are the best; Magellan seems to have gone downhill over the past few years.

tomtom's "road view" or whatever is worthless, so dont buy it for that. it's not as good as advertised because the signs are generic and dont look as they are in real life.
