CLEVELAND - U.S. Marshals arrested a teen Friday around 10 a.m. in connection to the shooting death of 5-month-old Aavielle Wakefield.
Davon Holmes, 19, was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Cleveland Police Department for the homicide, which occurred at East 145th Street and Spear Avenue on Oct. 1.
On Oct. 1, Wakefield was shot in the chest while she sat in her car seat, next to her sister. Wakefield's mother and another family member were in the car with her as well.
A warrant was issued for Holmes around 9 a.m. Friday morning.
Within an hour of the warrant being issued he was arrested by the U.S. Marshal's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force in the 3300 block of East 140th Street.
Lawrence Hilliard was also arrested in connection with this case. Hilliard was wanted by Cleveland police for tampering with evidence. He was arrested in the same location as where the shooting took place.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said, “The death of a child is something no family should have to endure, and nothing we do can bring baby Aavielle back to her family. We do hope that the arrest of Davon Holmes brings some peace to the Wakefield family.”
