If castrol thinks its gonna monopolize oil with a patented system theyre idiotic monopolists. I didnt hear them say that it should be a standard across the board system.

They may be holding back its implementation with a patent while claiming to be innovators.

You can still add it and the car will tell you when it needs topped off. If you are using too much oil it will report you to the EPA.

I can see it now. 90 seconds to change your oil and then 15 minutes of them trying to convince you to change your belts, transmission flush, etc.

I had a POS Nissan I bought used with 100k on it. Drove it for years did nothing but 10k oil changes, air filter, brakes and tires and one muffler as needed. never changed a belt or a hose and the motor ran fine till the timing belt broke at 312k. it had slow coolant leaks for years and I just topped it off.

Lesson learned, don't buy that extra maintenance stuff.

it takes 90 seconds + to drain WELL ... impossible

and wasting even a oil bottle cap full of oil is un-acceptable

people leave oil bottles sitting a minute to get the few drops and they will waste a 1/8 to 1/4 quart ?

no damn way. sue them for being wontonly wasteful

wonton destruction even of your own property: illegal for over 2000 years

also. when a "real shop" does an oil change they quickly check the car over, including whether the tags are up to date.

true they "try to upsell" (which you can turn down) but fact is

every time you get in your car you should look around it quickly for "obvious" problems and most people DO NOT and aren't even familiar with what to look for. at oil change or "tire low" is like a "minimum interval" for having someone who WILL do it to look it over quick with a trained eye.

-----------------

(one more reason not to use jiffy lube: you are much more on the hook for checking the safety of your vehicle, which is "a job todo")

if you go to a shop and see all foreigners, a mess, and no seasoned veteran(s) (hopefully with an s)

it's jiffy lube pretending to be a "real shop". take your car elsewheres

Wish the oil prices dont change in the coming year. Beacuse circumstances are showing the increasing in the crude oil price ultimately leading the companies to increase their prices here's the forecast report

All the major car companies are taking a hard look at this. Most motor oils today are perfectly fine to use for 7000 to 10000 miles. Lots of folks still buy into the 3000 mile myth and they are wasting a boatload of money and fucking over the environment by being so ignorant and wasteful.
These "cassette" type oil pods will contain superior filtration and the severe duty oil change interval will be more like 10,000 miles.

you have to put the car up on the lift anyway

"carbon fiber crap" leaks oil, cracks during cold weather, is more expensive

it's obviously not connecting to the lower most part of the engine - the "change" would miss the worse part of the slag

it would also prevent detecting metal fragments

the video is FAKE AS SHIT, it didn't show connecting or disconnecting anything, just a person lifting a preppy container in and out

---------------

no serious person would be "taking a look" at it

did you know that anyone who changes their own oil DiY has a convenient closed container that holds the oil nut, allows inspection of oil, and is easily carried to a local shop for recycling (they say it's %50 to %80 recoverable turned back into usable oil)

SO ... people are ALREADY using convenient closed carriable containers to keep oil in

the only "benefit" is FAKED in video (placement of it, fact it didn't show a attatch / detatching)

but as i alread said: taking a single nut isn't much effort. the oil filter is sometimes a bitch on some cars.

it's having the car up and lookign at the oil that are still necessary. the convenience isn't that much

on motorcycles you just detatch a hose and stuff the hose in a cary container: that's 10x a better idea: but everyone already knows about it and doesn't bother

gee ... i wonder why?

----------------------
and what about the oil filter ?? is that going to be integrated in the "box box" that today's cars DO NOT have room for in the engine compartment ?

The Nexcl oil change is far more efficient than a drain and fill could ever be. They are already in use on the Aston Martin Vulcan.

I have to wonder how much old oil is left in the system and not in that box? Since the box is on top of the engine, their is obviously some type of pump system to get the engine oil into the box thingy. Rather than the old school way of oil simply draining back into the pan after shutoff, ala gravity.

There is a 12 volt transfer pump in the car and it removes far more of the dirty oil than you could ever do with a drain and fill oil change. The oil filtration in these pods is 10 times better than any screw on type oil filter available. The hope is that they can make this system an industry standard across all auto manufactures.

Thanks for answering that. I'm so old school concerning mechanics I don't always welcome new ideas. But this could be interesting!

I like the fact that more and more auto manufacturers are putting the oil filter on top of the engine. Synthetic oils are able to last over 10,000 miles and it is nice to be able to change the oil filter at 5000 mile intervals without draining the crankcase.

what else is in "the works"

* Reverse lights that ARE NOT DOT APPROVED and are INVISIBLE in sunlight (no large panel, no diffraction, cannot see in parking lot during daytime: dumb asses or should i say: mother fuckers planned it that way to increase parts sales. other lenses not dot approved have issues too.

* GPS systems built-in you CANNOT SAY NO to ... you pay for the crap one way or another. but no sain person would use "auto gps" if they have an android: and anyone does have an andriod. yet they keep billing for R&D.

* $400 ea headlights that look blinky. i still say glass halogens are cheaper than "bulbs" - they promised the price would be eventually better: TOTAL LIES

* non flat tired $400 FUcKING EACH - and they do go flat and do have air and CANNOT BE REPAIRED

still no clean diesel technology that's worth a crap except by VW

still no electric cars that dont BURN MORE MONEY IN THE MAKING than they save during service. the huge expensive batteries are know to fail variously: but they dont say that when they $$$sell you one. at toyota they replaced them ON PRACTICALLY NEW CARS REGULARLY. they told each customer it was a once in a million. they lie

hey that reminds me: many people are restoring cars. maybe they think todays asian import luxury cars (and american cars that are design heavily to use asian parts) are not good for them or their lifestyle ?

the "brain" in the cars? they are not better than in the mid 1980's (mid 80's you can order OPEN TECHNOLOGY, HIGH RPM, REPAIRABLE car brain ... and dont say no: they still sell practicall the same models)

tell me more about auto improvements. i'm all ears.

tell me about "multimedia in web browsers" improvements over 30 years. i'm all ears on that too

this is off a truck, it's a very old "add on", and are likely not used in asian imports who (many who) cram shit under the hood make it hard to repair

the "oil filter helper". kind neat but who is really going to pay for it except a truck owner in love with DiY who gets overpaid on gov jobs ?

^^ it was originally added to some specific model to prevent engine fire and or belt damage

it WAS NOT an "easy oil change" feature , the oil filter was upside down in a tricky spot they "had to" make a jig to make it work

it was a work around, not for "easy oil change" at all

Lots of Toyota's have the top mounted filter from the factory. It does allow you to change the filter only but screw that. They say these modern synthetics can go 10k miles on oil if you change just the filter at 5k. I dont feel comfortable running any oil much beyond 5k miles.

This oil 'cartridge' is just a side effect of dry sumps in extremely modern engines.

Looking forward to invest again after the Brexit effect and i would prefer tech stock and to go with tech stocks i would probaly look forward to amzn stock. The formula has made Amazon.com one of the largest retailers in the world and shareholder a fortune. AMZN stock had its initial public offering at a split-adjusted price of $1.73 per share in May of 1997. As a June 2016, Amazon stock trades at over $700.00 per share. A $1,000 investment back then would be worth over $400,000 today.

I prefer allowing all the oil to drain out for several minutes. Warming the engine up first is an option also. Either way 90 seconds is too short a time period even with a dry sump oil system.

It's not on sale yet...maybe by 2017.

Why would an EV need an oil change anyway?

It has a small, ultra quiet gasoline powered generator on board that can re-charge the battery overnight if there is no charging station available. Seems like a good idea really.
