Health Insurance Skyrockets Again
Posted by: midlevelmanager ()
Date: November 20, 2015 02:09PM

So our HR has rolled out 2016 numbers and we employees are paying an additional $3K per year (roughly 75% increase) bringing it up to about $7700/year. And deductibles have skyrocketed as well - no benefit until $4500 deductible is met.

So am I crazy or why would I even carry insurance at this point? For all practical purposes I am paying over $12K for what amounts to catastrophic coverage - in which case I'm screwed anyway because it only covers 80% of that. Should I drop it and just pay the penalty?

Who cares about the "Dear Leader?" All I am interested in is what is happening on the ground here. We have people making less than 50K per year paying almost 8K per year in health insurance. That's absurd. And all HR will say is that they are just passing along the costs as the company is paying more. Who knows? But it's happening.

The solution is obvious. You need to pay your employees more.

Whining is one of the reasons.
What's more important? That new flat screen or your health? If you have a heart attack, involved in a auto accident or shot buy some idiot with a gun then you might rethink your decision. Being stupid is why you're only midlevel.

Up next, complete health care provided by the government.

Cradle to grave.

Don't worry though, no such thing as death panels. Wont be any lines or limits.

We'll all get the exact same care as dear leader.

I want to offer a proposal on how to effectively defeat ObamaCare. It cannot be repealed in total and to continue such a strategy is useless grandstanding. The only hope is to disarm it.

Ever since ObamaCare was imposed upon us, and upheld via nefarious reasoning by the Supreme Court, the House has voted over 50 times to repeal the ACA. Every time, House Republicans have failed to address the tyrannical core of the Act.

The main problem hidden in ObamaCare is not the availability of the exchanges but, the mandatory purchase of health care; ENFORCED BY THE IRS.

Here's Florida Congresswoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D), regarding the hidden nature of ObamaCare and the mandatory provision:

*******************************************************************************

"We actually have not required in this law that you carry health insurance. Let me explain what we did:

What we did is that, just like when you’re treated, that we categorize you differently in terms of your tax return when you’re married versus single, just like we categorize you differently when you are a homeowner versus someone who doesn’t own a home, just like we categorize you differently when you have children versus not having children — what we are doing is you will be in a different tax status if you carry insurance versus not carrying health insurance.

So you can feel free to choose not to carry health insurance. That’s just going to be reflected in the tax category that you’re in on your tax return. But there is no requirement in this law that you must carry health insurance."

*****************************************************************************

I'm sure you know what that means. By political sleight of hand, ObamaCare is compulsory. Health care has shifted into the realm of the tax collector. That perverse relationship must be totally repealed and the IRS forbidden to penalize anybody who does not carry health insurance. That includes dismantling of those enforcement entities created by the ACA.

Here is the target that must be destroyed: 26 USC § 5000A

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/5000A

While I support the creation of a special Federal entity that enables people with moderate to high health risks to buy health insurance, the ObamaCare exchanges must earn their business without being subsidized by IRS extortion.

The ideal solution is to repeal ObamaCare and enact "Medicare For All." Medicare is proven and works well. To extend it to all who want to buy into it, it should be first subsidized by removing the FICA income tax ceiling. But, the REAL subsidy will come from a direct tax on Wall Street (and LaSalle Street) turnover of derivatives and securities. Both places handle quadrillions in financial traffic every year. That river of STOLEN WEALTH should be taxed at 1% per transaction. If Goldman Sachs carries out thousands of flash trades a second, great! ONE PERCENT OFF THE TOP EVERY FUCKING TIME!

Are you people poor or what?

The cost of health insurance is trivial and you are required to pay for it. If you have an issue with the cost then perhaps you should figure out what YOU did wrong in life to be concerned with a minor expense like this.

You people always seem to blame others for your failures.

So I come back after a few days and this is what I see:

The solution is obvious. You need to pay your employees more.
Infantile college kid analysis. If they company decides they cannot afford to bear 100% of the rapidly increasing costs – what makes you think they would give the same amount of money away in raises? The corporation is responsible to keep the shareholders happy – no doubt one of these same shareholders is your father who is paying your way through college.

Midlevel managers are the first out the door. One way or another.
Lack of attention to detail. No one’s job is on the line – it is a matter of dumping onto employees a percentage of the rapidly increasing health insurance costs.

That new flat screen or your health?
I don’t need a new flat screen. A) that girl in the dorm across from yours whose dad is paying her way through college – that’s me. I need every penny I can get to pay for that. And B) on a macroeconomic level shouldn’t we want people to have disposable income to buy consumer goods rather than throwing it into a giant government-mandated health care bureaucracy?

If you have a heart attack, involved in a auto accident or shot buy some idiot with a gun then you might rethink your decision.
Lack of attention to detail. Obviously, such considerations have already been thought about – thusly my comments regarding the only benefit being catastrophic coverage. However, at $7700/year that might be a risk worth taking – over 10 years that’s almost $80K. If I saved that money I could afford a minor hospital event.

I just don’t understand the media inattention to the massive increase in health care costs. It is directly attributable to the requirements mandated by the Affordable Health Care Act. We forced the insurance companies to cover everything and everybody and now anyone with a job that actually works is paying for it. Affordable Health Care Act my ass – Orwellian double-speak at it’s best.

The insurance based system itself is gonna bleed this country dry as continues to inflate. It is not sustainable. It doesnt save lives and its killing the countrys economy too.

We will have single payer. Whether we do it now and responsibly or eventually to save the economy once in complete crisis. It will happen. Once again rightards will wait until they are absolute failures to ask us to fix it.

Romney Heritage Foundation care was the Republican solution. There is no other method of stopping hyper inflating costs in the for profit system or providing more care to those without it.

But of course idiot Republicans cannot bother themselves with such facts until its strangling the economy to death.

wrong

the gop states refusing federal money to get thing rolling has fucked up the entire system

the gop states refused to sign people up WILLING to get on board

the bad faith and rate increases are directly connected to the gop states playing party politics with real life consequences on everyone but themselves

how many votes to repeal - 70+?

the ACA provides better coverage at better rates for the MAJORITY and minimal increase for others

gop has attempted to fuck things up at every turn, they have failed, but have succeeded at screwing over all of us

Bullshit. The Federal exchange is nationwide. The only things done by state are those states which want to run their own exchanges. While a bunch have failed in various ways, most all are in Democratic states. What your idiot brain has confused is Medicaid expansion but that's a separate program and doesn't affect how the exchanges operate, participation, or the costs for the individual insurance side.

Your 70 or however many votes to repeal is bullshit too that's been debunked many times:

Quote

CLINTON on the health care law: "The Republicans have voted to repeal it nearly 60 times."

THE FACTS: As much as Republicans wish to dismantle President Barack Obama's health care law, they haven't beaten their heads against the wall quite that often.

Many of the votes she is counting were to change or repeal specific parts of the sprawling law, a fine-tuning that Obama acquiesced to at times and some Democrats voted for. In June, the House voted to abolish one part of the law, a tax on medical device makers, with the support of 46 Democrats.

No, it does not provide better coverage at better rates for the majority. It provides broader coverage at higher costs with higher deductibles for everyone. The only ones who have lower costs are those who are subsidized and only because they are subsidized. The majority in Obamacare who receive subsidies are only so because they dumped all of the dregs into the individual market pool. The people who were in the individual market now pay about double what they did before with deductibles that are about double because they pay for the greater risk added to the pool and required coverage requirements.

Both still represent a tiny number within the overall health insurance market which is dominated by employer-provided insurance. So bottom line, we end up paying a ridiculous amount of money for subsidies, huge operating costs for the program, cause those in the individual market pool to pay more, raise deductibles to prohibitive levels, up-end the whole insurance market, just in order to insure a very small incremental number of people. And that still doesn't help to control costs.

These comments are so partisan and so stupid and so uninformed there is really nothing to say. Bottom line is the ACA has resulted in MASSIVELY HIGHER costs and MASSIVELY REDUCED benefits for EVERYONE that ALREADY HAD HEALTH INSURANCE.

The simple way to get rid of Obamacare is to come up with a better plan. All I read about are ways to get rid of it. Ok, get rid of it and what? Instead of chasing Trump, our leaders should put this on the agenda for debate.

My previous insurance was fine: roughly $90/mo. Now I have nothing because the deductibles are too high. Paying the penalty is cheaper for the time being.

When you hear stories about cheap health insurance coverage in the days right before Obamacare took effect, it almost always involves either policies that provided only minimal coverage which was sold to young healthy individuals who didn't use healthcare services, or insurance that people had through work where most of the tab was being paid by the company who had no idea the real cost of their health insurance.

So how does Obamacare improve my life? I'll be paying more money for insurance I can only use after spending thousands out of pocket.

This is what I know. I had decent health insurance prior the ACA. It was not cheap but was affordable. I was paying about $2500/year and about $500 deductible. It has gone up every single year since ACA and now astronomically higher. Much higher deductibles. To the point I am not sure why I am bothering with insurance coverage at all.

Two of my self-employed brothers had their health insurance plans canceled outright. Their new insurance plans are shit compared to previous and 10X as expensive. To the point one of them dropped all insurance coverage and is just paying all expenses out of pocket.

To the vast majority of middle income America the ACA has been a giant kick in the nuts.

all rates went up countrywide because gop states refused to implement the laws

insurance companies and docs everywhere were not sure what was going to happen, so they covered their asses by raising prices on everything

My friend has 2 young daughters and cannot afford the 1700.00 per month premiums .. AND the deductible is 7500.00 ...
So he has no insurance because he cannot afford it .. AND because he cannot afford it, he has to pay a "penalty" essentially for not being wealthy enough --- a penalty enforced by the IRS.

Everyone wants to be rich. Health Insurance Corporations turned the concept into huge profits. Someone always gets rich and someone always gets fucked in the ass. That's the way the cookie rolls in America. Deal with it.
If you don't like capitalism then have the balls to get out and go live in Shangri-La.
What a bunch of pathetic crybabies.

What's goin' on is Fascism, but you're too young and poorly educated to understand what that means.

It's not clear to me that the drug makers are practicing capitalism. It appears to be a government backed monopoly with the current drug patent system we have. Often there is no alternative for some of these drugs -- you can't just go out and substitute drug B for drug A. There is no competition.

Drug Corporations utilize lobbyists to prevent competition. Capitalism works for the big dogs. And that's life in the USA.
