Verizon to Dead Customer: Can You Hear This Now?

Man Dies In Verizon Dispute - 6/18 - Just in. WMAL is reporting that a Vienna VA man died this morning after a dispute with a Verizon FIOS cable TV tech. A WTOPer tells DCRTV that the man, who was not satisfied with the job the FIOS installer did, tried to keep the Verizon employee from leaving by getting in front of the van. We're told that the resident then reached into the van to grab the steering wheel and died after falling to the ground. He was not run over, we're told. More soon.....

VIENNA, Va. - An elderly man has died after a confrontation outside his home with a phone company technician.
The 79-year-old homeowner was unhappy with the work completed at his home on Ayrhill Avenue on Wednesday, Vienna Police spokesman Bill Murray says.

After the installation was complete, the man went outside, followed the technician to his van and began arguing with the Verizon employee.

"The technician began to drive away and as he did, the homeowner reached in through the van window and grabbed onto the steering wheel," Murray says.

The man then fell onto the ground and was transported to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Police say some people witnessed the incident. No charges have been filed.

"We have to find out how exactly the gentleman died, and go from there. There is a lot of investigation still left to do," Murray says.

I bet this Verizon guy was my neighbor, he works for Verizon. He looks a lot like Phil Specter but with hair.

He's the gay one that bought a 4-bedroom house, lives alone and paid cash, 520K?

The one that told me I should kill myself, like Furfur. Go figure.

This gutless wonder constantly complained about his customers being idiots, and how he was much smarter.

1. I never told you to kill yourself.

2. Tell me where in Fairfax you can get a 4 bedroom house for 520K. It probably lost value because there is a batshit insane woman living next to it.

You know Spunky, I liked messing with you, but now I actually feel sorry for you.

Seriously, get help. There are new medications coming out all the time for people with mental illness. You obviously have real problems that need working out.

Good night.

The memo being sent to all FIOS installers tomorrow instructs them to always drive away from a customer's house with the windows rolled up and to do so slowly and cautiously.

Yes, it was a joke. Though the reason it's a joke is that a company like Verizon would probably actually put out such an inane, clueless memo.

Some ass sitting in some office in some part of this country where rent and labor is cheap would concoct the "solution" or, at least some way to reduce liability by issuing some corporatist instructions like this. Or, even worse, some outsourced "consultant" in Inda, or Bangladesh, or whatever poor country we can find marginally educated cheap labor.
